Doom Spline Resizer earns its place for adding exact-length spline drawing to 3ds Max, with pivot alignment handled for you. Keep in mind it applies an Xform to your spline.
Doom Spline Resizer brings CAD-style precision line drawing to 3ds Max. When run, it sets the pivot to the first vertex of a shape object and aligns it to the first segment, then opens a window where you set the length of a spline, scaling from that first vertex. The pivot ends up centered and aligned to the first vertex of the spline.
The script works with any shape that has a single spline; with a complex spline it sets the total length. For best use, associate it with a key such as D, which is free by default, or add a toolbar button. Press the key or button to start drawing a line, press again to enter a line size or use the rollout tab, then set the length and press ENTER or the SET button to resize. Selecting a new line takes you straight to the resize rollout.
Version 0.6 lets you resize multiple selected splines at once with the SET button. Note that the script will Xform your spline.
Doom Spline Resizer - draw line with precise lenght is best for 3ds Max users who need to draw or resize splines to an exact length.
Doom Spline Resizer - draw line with precise lenght is completely free to download and use.
Doom Spline Resizer is written for 3ds Max 2016 and later, so it should load on those releases. Version 0.6 also changed its category to _Script from # Script, which resolved an error that appeared on 3ds Max 2024. The script comes as an .mcr file placed in the _Scripts category, while the .ms version simply loads on run. If you are on a release earlier than 2016, check the developer's page before installing to confirm behaviour on your setup.
Doom Spline Resizer ships as an mcr script you will find under the _Scripts category, and the .ms version loads when you run it. For best use, associate the script with a key button such as D, which is free by default, or add a toolbar button found in the # Scripts category. Press the key or the toolbar button to start drawing a line, press it again to enter a line size or use the rollout tab, then set your length and press ENTER or the SET button to resize the spline.
Doom Spline Resizer works with any shape that has a single spline. If you use a complex spline, the script sets the total length. When you resize, it centers the pivot and aligns it to the first vertex of the spline. Version 0.6 adds the ability to resize multiple lines at once: select several splines and press the SET button. One thing to note is that the script will Xform your spline, so keep that in mind on shapes you do not want transformed.
Doom Spline Resizer is listed as free here in the catalog. For current licensing details and the latest downloads, check the developer's page on ScriptSpot. The most recent release is version 0.6, dated August 2023, which introduced multi-spline resizing with the SET button and changed the script category to avoid an error on 3ds Max 2024. Earlier attachments for versions 0.4 and 0.5 are also available if you need them.
