Why we like it

Earns its place in the toolfarm library for turning any puppet-pin-ready layer into rubber, plastic or goop that reacts to a layer's own motion, with no keyframes to set.

What is Ebberts + Zucker Rubberize It?

Rubberize It! from Ebberts + Zucker gives After Effects layers the behaviour of rubber, plastic or goop in seconds, with no keyframes required. It works by displacing puppet pins based on a layer's acceleration, so changes in its position, rotation or scale automatically trigger a reaction. It even responds to motion inherited from a parent layer.

The process is straightforward: place puppet pins on a layer, select a material and click Rubberize. It works with type, stills, video, shapes, vectors and any other layer that can accommodate puppet pins. Eight material presets are included — Rubber, Plastic, Goop, Vinyl, Sponge, Blubber, Putty and Jelly — alongside sliders for custom materials and the option to combine multiple materials.

A Chaos feature adds a randomized element to materials, and formulas offer two different types of reaction. A Clean button removes expressions from selected pins, and a Smart Rubberize button and a Bake function to speed preview and rendering round out the toolset. The UI is built to apply changes quickly and offers a fast learning curve.

Who is Ebberts + Zucker Rubberize It best for?

Ebberts + Zucker Rubberize It is best for adding squash-and-stretch, rubber-like motion to After Effects layers — type, stills, video, shapes and vectors — without keyframing.

Frequently asked questions

Which After Effects versions does Rubberize It support?

Rubberize It! runs on After Effects 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2020, as well as CC 2019, CC 2018, CC 2017 and CC 2015.3. That range covers both current releases and several older Creative Cloud versions, so most After Effects installations from CC 2015.3 onward are covered. If you are on a version outside that list, check the developer's page to confirm compatibility before installing.

How does Rubberize It create its rubber effect?

Rubberize It! works by displacing puppet pins based on a layer's acceleration, so changes in its position, rotation or scale automatically trigger a reaction. Because of that approach, it works with type, stills, video, shapes, vectors and any other layer that can accommodate puppet pins. It also responds to motion inherited from a parent layer. The workflow is to place pins on a layer, select a material and click Rubberize.

Does Rubberize It need keyframes to animate?

Rubberize It! reacts to motion without keyframes. Once a layer is set in motion, it behaves as if made of rubber, vinyl, goop or one of the other material choices, responding automatically to changes in position, rotation or scale. You can shape the result using eight material presets, sliders for custom materials, a Chaos feature that adds randomization, and formulas for two different types of reaction.

Is Rubberize It free, and how does licensing work?

Rubberize It! is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, so check the Ebberts + Zucker page for the current details before you download or set it up. The changelog shows several updates to the licensing framework across releases, so confirming the latest terms on the developer's page is the safest way to know what applies to your version.
