Erosion Add-On earns its place in the superhive library for running erosion on any mesh rather than only heightmaps, and for pairing terrain deformation with river, lake, vertex-group and shading data. It's built by a developer who has worked in 3D for advertising and television for 25 years and began programming Blender add-ons around 2012. It ships in Lite and full versions, backed by a no-questions-asked refund policy.
Erosion Add-On runs flow-based erosion inside Blender using an original algorithm that goes beyond the standard 2D heightmap workflow. It works on any mesh — even Suzanne — and can be applied to a whole mesh or a selection of vertices. Erosion can run once or in iterations while you model with rising detail, and a "new landscape" option builds terrain from scratch.
The add-on generates rivers and lakes that flow down the surface based on the vertices, with vertex groups for water and flow age. It produces vertex groups for modifiers and color attributes for shading, plus a flow map for flexible erosion shading. Flow is topology-based with eight flow properties, where strength sets length and width widens flows, all controlled by curves you can model and animate.
For shading, the flow map nodegroup can be combined with a vertex color for more contrast, and cave and tunnel ceilings are calculated like real ceilings, producing small spikes, with flows simulated under downward gravity. Vegetation can be added by creating a particle system automatically to distribute trees and plants. Two versions are available: Lite for erosion calculation and the full add-on with the 2D Flowmap, rivers, lakes and more profile curves.
Erosion Add-On is best for deforming custom meshes into eroded terrain in Blender, generating rivers and lakes, and producing vertex groups and color attributes for shading.
Erosion Add-On is completely free to download and use.
Erosion Add-On works on any mesh, including Blender's Suzanne, instead of only the standard 2D heightmap workflow. You can apply erosion to a whole mesh or just a selection of vertices, and run it once or in iterations while modeling with rising detail. If you don't have a mesh to start from, the "new landscape" option generates one from scratch. Flow is topology-based with eight flow properties and is controlled through curves you can model and animate, where strength sets length and width widens the flows.
Erosion Add-On comes in two versions. The Lite version handles the erosion calculation — it changes the mesh, generates vertex groups and vertex colors, and adds modifiers for final adjustment. The full version adds the 2D Flowmap, river and lake generation, and more profile curves. Both apply flow-based erosion to custom meshes. The developer keeps a no-questions-asked refund policy, so there's no risk in testing erosion on your scene. Check the developer's page for the current details on each version.
Erosion Add-On generates rivers and lakes that flow down the surface based on the mesh vertices. It creates vertex groups for water and for the age of the flow, which you can feed into modifiers and shading. A flow map supports flexible erosion shading, and combining the flow map nodegroup with a vertex color adds more contrast to the flow shading. Cave and tunnel ceilings are calculated like real ceilings, producing small spikes, with flows simulated under downward gravity.
Erosion Add-On is listed as free here, but pricing and licensing can change, so check the developer's page for the current terms. The add-on comes in a Lite version for erosion calculation and a full version with the 2D Flowmap, rivers, lakes and additional profile curves. The developer also offers a no-questions-asked refund policy, so there's no risk in testing erosion on your own scene. A demo video is available for a closer look at the add-on.
Erosion Add-On can apply vegetation by creating a particle system automatically to distribute trees and plants across the terrain. The developer's Deeptree Pack is noted as a good match for this. You can apply erosion to the whole mesh or only a selection of vertices, and the vertex groups generated during erosion can drive modifiers and shading. That lets you shape and populate a landscape as part of the same erosion workflow inside Blender.
