A niche entry in the superhive library, IK Dynamic stands out for driving multi-legged and biped motion through Geometry Nodes and controller objects instead of hand-keyed poses.
IK Dynamic brings procedural animation to Blender for rigid body multi-legged characters and biped characters. Rather than building key poses by hand, it drives motion using algorithms through its IK Dynamic Geometry Nodes node group. The workflow starts by selecting the bones to animate and clicking Create Armature Link, after which the animation can be tweaked through settings. Only an IK rig is required.
The add-on uses parameters together with empty objects as controllers for the character to follow, and the character will try to place its feet on a specified ground object. It supports direct animation, where the character is attached to an animated controller, and indirect animation, where the character tries to follow an animated controller. Legs procedurally calculate their position on the ground object. Results can be saved by baking, using either the native Blender bake animation operator or the IK Dynamic bake animation operator.
Procedural animation involves a trade-off: fine-tuning is often needed to get the expected result. IK Dynamic is resource intensive, so a fast computer is needed for a real-time preview, and the simulation cache can be enabled for a non-real-time preview. Characters are not included. Documentation is available for further guidance.
Ik Dynamic is best for blender users animating rigid body multi-legged or biped characters who want procedural, controller-driven leg motion rather than manual keyframing.
Ik Dynamic is completely free to download and use.
IK Dynamic is listed as compatible with Blender versions 4.3 through 4.5 and is distributed as a Blender add-on extension. The changelog also records that version 1.0.1 added Blender 5.0.0 compatibility. It is a Dev Fund contributor product. If you need to confirm compatibility with a specific Blender build before installing, check the developer's page and the available documentation for the most current details on supported versions.
IK Dynamic is resource intensive. To get a real-time preview, a fast computer is needed, and the documentation includes more tips to improve performance. If your machine cannot keep up with real-time playback, you can enable the simulation cache to get a preview, though that preview will not be real-time. Because it relies on a Geometry Nodes node group not designed for animating armature poses, the developer notes it will have some quirks of usage.
IK Dynamic works by selecting the bones you want to animate and clicking Create Armature Link, with only an IK rig required. From there you tweak settings to change the procedural animation to your liking. Characters are not included, so you supply your own rig. When you are happy with the result, you can bake the animation using either the native Blender bake animation operator or the IK Dynamic bake animation operator to save it.
IK Dynamic is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, so for the current pricing, license details and any options offered by the developer, GreenJadeLeaf, check the developer's page directly. The add-on is distributed under the GPL license. Documentation is also available to help you get started, and a demo video is available if you want to see the add-on before setting it up.
