Why we like it

Push Pro earns its spot in the 3ds Max library as a self-intersection-aware alternative to the standard Push, adding surface-detail retention that the built-in modifier doesn't offer.

What is Push Pro?

Push Pro is a modifier for 3ds Max from developer Marius Silaghi. It moves the vertices of a mesh outwards or inwards, in the same spirit as the standard Push modifier. The key difference is that Push Pro prevents self-intersections from occurring, whereas the standard Push produces a lot of them. Surface details are also preserved very well while the geometry is pushed.

One caveat: global intersections may still occur for high push values. Alongside its core deformation function, experimental uses include serving as a displacement modifier and creating projection cages for texture baking.

Push Pro supports 3ds Max 2013 through 2027 (64-bit) and was last updated on 22 April 2023. It is listed here as free; check the developer's page for current licensing. A demo video is available.

Who is Push Pro best for?

Push Pro is best for pushing geometry inwards or outwards on meshes where the standard Push modifier's self-intersections are a problem, plus experimental displacement and projection-cage work for texture baking.

How much does Push Pro cost?

Push Pro is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Which 3ds Max versions does Push Pro support?

Push Pro is compatible with 3ds Max across a wide span of releases, listed as working with versions 2013 through 2027 in 64-bit. That covers 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and the more recent 2025, 2026 and 2027 builds. If you run any of these versions, the modifier should fit into your setup. The listing was last updated on 22 April 2023, so check the developer's page for the newest details on version support before installing.

How is Push Pro different from the standard Push modifier?

Push Pro moves a mesh's vertices outwards or inwards, much like the standard Push modifier, but it is built to prevent self-intersections from occurring. The standard Push produces a lot of self-intersections, which is the main problem Push Pro addresses. It also preserves surface details very well as the geometry moves. One thing to keep in mind is that global intersections may still occur when you use high push values, so extreme settings can still create overlaps even with this modifier applied.

Is Push Pro free to use?

Push Pro is listed here as free, so you can add it to your 3ds Max toolkit without a price shown in this catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, so for the current arrangement and any purchase or license details it is best to check Marius Silaghi's product page directly. That page also hosts the download and the most up-to-date information about the modifier, including version support and any notes the developer has added since this listing was last updated.

Can Push Pro be used for texture baking?

Push Pro lists making projection cages for texture baking among its experimental uses, so it can help produce the offset cage geometry that baking workflows rely on. The same experimental category includes using it as a displacement modifier. Because these are described as experimental applications rather than its primary purpose, results can vary, and the core function remains pushing vertices outwards or inwards while avoiding self-intersections. For baking specifically, the clean, non-self-intersecting offset it produces is what makes it a candidate for cage creation.
