Why we like it

SplitGrid earns its place in the aescripts library for turning a row-and-column choice into a filled grid of panels, with support running from After Effects 2026 back to CC 2017.

What is SplitGrid?

SplitGrid is an After Effects script for creating split screens, video grids, dividers and grid lines. You choose how many rows and columns you want, and the composition is filled to match your selection.

The layout goes up to 100 by 100 layer panels. You can arrange them by rows or columns, from the top or bottom and left or right, or even in a zig-zag pattern. Space can be added between panels, with or without borders.

Version 1.3 introduced a Preset System with 16 presets and a shape layer option for both panels and dividers, along with a UI change that allows for a minimal window size. SplitGrid works with After Effects 2026 back through CC 2017, and a demo video is available.

Frequently asked questions

That range covers current releases plus several older Creative Cloud versions, so it fits both up-to-date and legacy After Effects installs. If you're unsure which build you're running, check your version before installing, and refer to the developer's page on aescripts for the latest compatibility details as newer After Effects releases arrive over time.

How many panels can SplitGrid create?

SplitGrid can create up to 100 by 100 layer panels. You choose how many rows and columns you want, and the composition is filled to match your selection. Panels can be arranged by rows or columns, starting from the top or bottom and left or right, or in a zig-zag pattern. You can also add space between panels, with or without borders. What changed in SplitGrid 1.3?

SplitGrid 1.3 added a new Preset System with 16 presets and a shape layer option for both panels and dividers. This release also changed the UI to allow for a minimal window size, and it was released on May 21, 2026. For the full history and any newer changes, see the developer's page on aescripts.

Is SplitGrid free to use?

SplitGrid is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, so for the current details on cost, usage rights and how the script is distributed, check the developer's page on aescripts.
