Why we like it

AI Relight earns its place for letting editors add fake 3D lights to footage in post, with control over light direction and per-light position and color.

What is AI Relight?

AI Relight is a plugin for After Effects and Premiere Pro that adds customizable virtual lights to any footage in post. It understands the 3D properties of your footage and lets you add fake 3D lights. According to the developer, it gives you the advantage of a 3D model in an instant and can boost the ambiance of a shot.

You can control how light bounces over the X, Y and Z directions, and animate the position and color of individual lights. AI Relight can also render only the lights for creative use.

Version 1.1 added support for Premiere Pro 2025, alongside After Effects 2022 through 2025, and the plugin also runs on Mac after an earlier update. Recent updates have brought bug fixes and performance improvements. A demo video is available.

Frequently asked questions

Which After Effects versions does AI Relight support?

AI Relight is compatible with After Effects 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. Those four releases are the supported builds on the host side, so if you're on a version within that range you should be able to run the plugin. For editors, support also extends to Premiere Pro 2025. If you work across several versions, checking your exact build against this list before installing helps avoid compatibility issues, and the developer's page is the place to confirm current requirements.

Does AI Relight work in Premiere Pro?

AI Relight works in Premiere Pro 2025, a capability added in version 1.1 released in late November 2024. Before that release, the plugin was available for After Effects only. So if you're editing in Premiere Pro rather than compositing in After Effects, you can still add virtual lights to your footage, provided you're on the 2025 version. The developer's page has the latest details on Premiere Pro support and any newer versions.

Does AI Relight run on Mac?

AI Relight runs on Mac. Mac support arrived in an earlier update, and a follow-up fix addressed a Mac-specific error that appeared after a certain number of frames. Since then, the plugin has continued to receive bug fixes and performance improvements. If you're on macOS and want to add virtual 3D lights inside After Effects or Premiere Pro, this plugin supports your setup. The developer's page is the best source for current system details.

Is AI Relight free to use?

AI Relight is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, so for the current details on pricing, trials or any usage conditions, the developer's page is the most reliable place to check before you download. That page also covers the latest version and platform support, which is useful if you want to confirm everything lines up with your After Effects or Premiere Pro setup before installing.
