aiImageGen earns a spot in the aescripts library for keeping AI image generation inside After Effects, from prompt to placed layer, with cost estimates and error alerts along the way.
aiImageGen adds AI image generation to Adobe After Effects by connecting to Replicate. You can work from a plain text prompt, upload a reference image, or capture the current comp selection to use as a reference, and generate without leaving After Effects.
Generated images are downloaded, saved, and placed into the active composition, scaled and centered. Built-in cost estimates and error alerts flag insufficient credits or blocked prompts as you work. Running it requires After Effects CS6 or later with ScriptUI support, a Replicate API key with credits, and an internet connection.
Developed by Clayton West, aiImageGen is listed on aescripts. Version 1.45 added stability tweaks for users who may have issues running on Windows, and version 1.43 introduced the Google Nano Banana Pro, Google Imagen 4, and FLUX 2 Pro models. A demo video is available.
aiImageGen is best for after Effects artists who want to generate AI images from text or reference inputs and place them straight into a composition.
aiImageGen is completely free to download and use.
aiImageGen lists compatibility with After Effects 2026 and 2025, and its requirements note After Effects CS6 or later with ScriptUI support. It also needs a Replicate API key with credits and an active internet connection, since generation runs through Replicate rather than on your machine. If you are on an older release, confirm your version provides ScriptUI support before installing. For the most current compatibility details, refer to the developer's page on aescripts.
aiImageGen connects to Replicate to generate images, so it requires a Replicate API key with credits and an internet connection. Requests are sent to Replicate rather than processed locally, which is why both the key and the connection are needed. The plugin displays built-in cost estimates and raises error alerts for insufficient credits or blocked prompts, so you can track requests and see when one cannot complete. Add credits to your Replicate account before generating to avoid interruptions.
aiImageGen automatically downloads each generated image, saves it, and places it into the active composition, scaled and centered. You can start a generation from a plain text prompt, an uploaded reference image, or a capture of the current comp selection, and the result lands in your comp without leaving After Effects. Cost estimates and error alerts appear along the way, flagging insufficient credits or blocked prompts before a request completes.
aiImageGen is listed as free in this catalog. Keep in mind that it connects to Replicate and requires a Replicate API key with credits, so image generation itself depends on your Replicate account. Built-in cost estimates help you gauge each request before running it. For current licensing terms and trial details, check the developer's page on aescripts, since version 1.3 enabled a trial version.
