ALC earns its place for automating Alembic looping and crowd randomization inside Blender without node setups or manual driver scripting.
Alembic Loop Controller (ALC) is a Blender animation add-on from Shift4cube for working with Alembic (.abc) caches. Its Loop Engine takes a short Alembic clip and loops it infinitely using a Start Frame and Length, and the Update Loop button detects the MeshSequenceCache modifier, ensures the cache file is unique, and injects a driver to handle the looping. The result is automated looping without complex node setups or manual driver scripting.
Beyond looping, ALC adjusts playback without re-exporting. Speed controls how fast the animation plays, and Time Offset shifts it in time. The Flock system's Randomize button assigns each selected object a random Time Offset within the loop length and a slightly random Speed with ±5% variation for an organic crowd look. An Auto-Unique Cache gives every object its own cache pointer, so many objects can share one .abc file yet play at different times.
Utility tools round it out: Disable Loop removes ALC drivers to restore the default Hold or Play once behavior, while Bake Keys converts the loop drivers into standard keyframes for render farms or machines without ALC installed.
Alembic Loop Controller (Alc) is best for blender artists working with Alembic caches who need infinite looping, playback speed and offset control, and crowd variation across many objects.
Alembic Loop Controller (Alc) is completely free to download and use.
Alembic Loop Controller lists compatibility with Blender 3.0, 4.0, and 5.0+, so it covers a wide span of releases from older builds to current ones. After installing the zip through Edit > Preferences > Add-ons and enabling Animation: Alembic Loop Controller (ALC), you'll find its panel in the View3D sidebar under the 'Alembic' tab, labeled ALC Controller. If you run a version within that stated range, the add-on's tools for looping, speed, and offsets should be available in that panel.
Alembic Loop Controller installs like a standard Blender add-on. Download the Alembic_Loop_Controller.zip file, open Blender, and go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons. Click Install at the top right and select the zip, then search for 'ALC' or 'Alembic' and enable the checkbox for Animation: Alembic Loop Controller (ALC). Once enabled, open the View3D sidebar (N-Panel) and click the 'Alembic' tab on the right side of the viewport to reach the ALC Controller panel, where the looping and crowd tools live.
Alembic Loop Controller lets you adjust playback without re-exporting your files. The Speed control sets how fast the animation plays, where 1.00 is normal speed, 2.00 is double speed, and 0.50 is half speed or slow motion. Time Offset shifts the animation in time, so an offset of 5.0 means it starts five frames later. Both settings adjust the loop directly inside Blender, and offsets are especially useful for breaking up uniformity across many objects.
Alembic Loop Controller includes a Flock system built around the Randomize button. Select multiple Alembic objects and click Randomize, and every selected object receives a random Time Offset within the loop length plus a slightly random Speed with ±5% variation, producing an organic flock look. It also uses an Auto-Unique Cache so each object gets its own cache pointer, letting many objects be driven by the same .abc file on disk while playing at different times in Blender.
Alembic Loop Controller is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing terms and any conditions on use, check the developer's page, since availability and terms can change over time. Separate from cost, if you plan to move a project to a render farm or another computer without ALC installed, the Bake Keys option converts the dynamic loop drivers into standard keyframes, though once baked you can no longer adjust the Speed or Offset settings unless you undo.
