Why we like it

ARKomposeIt earns its place in the superhive library by automating the tedious part of facial animation: building each expression from the many ARKit shape keys it draws on. Recent updates added Append and Asset Library support in 1.3.3 and manipulation by selection in 1.3.2.

What is Arkomposeit?

ARKomposeIt is a Blender add-on that builds complete facial expressions from the ARKit shape keys already on your character. Rather than assembling each emotion from many shape keys by hand, it scans all your shape keys in a few clicks and produces more than 100 ready emotions and speech expressions. It does not create ARK shape keys itself; it composes finished expressions from the ones you have.

Fast mapping uses smart pattern recognition to detect and connect shape keys to ARKit standards, including custom rigs. The built-in template library spans core emotions such as Joy and Anger, speech visemes, fantasy, and cartoonic styles. You can tweak any template or build your own expression, save it, and reapply it in other projects, with real-time facial feedback and instant shape key updates as you adjust intensity or blend combinations.

Work happens in Blender's sidebar across two tabs, Map and Compose, with a search filter, categories, and visual indicators for mapped and unmapped keys. Auto keyframing lets you animate expressions directly for lip sync and emotional acting, and custom expressions import and export across platforms. The download includes the add-on ZIP, compatible with Blender 4.1 and newer, plus the 100+ presets.

Frequently asked questions

Does ARKomposeIt work with Blender 4.1?

ARKomposeIt ships as an add-on ZIP that's compatible with Blender 4.1 and newer, so it fits current Blender setups. It works inside Blender's sidebar through two tabs, Map and Compose, and requires no coding to use. Recent releases also added Append and Asset Library support, letting you bring expression assets in through Blender's own systems. If you're on an older Blender build, check the developer's page to confirm before installing, since the listed compatibility starts at 4.1.

Does ARKomposeIt create ARKit shape keys for me?

ARKomposeIt does not create ARK shape keys itself. Instead, it builds complete expressions from the ARKit shape keys your character already has. You run the scan, and it reads all your shape keys in a few clicks, then assembles more than 100 emotions and speech expressions from them. Because each emotion normally draws on many shape keys, this removes a lot of the manual assembly. You still need ARKit-based shape keys on your character first; ARKomposeIt handles the composition step that follows.

Is ARKomposeIt free to download?

ARKomposeIt is listed as free here in our catalog, and the download includes the add-on ZIP along with more than 100 expression presets. Licensing terms can change over time, so check the developer's page for the current details before you rely on it for a project. The package is built to work with Blender 4.1 and newer, and the presets cover core emotions, speech visemes, fantasy, and cartoonic styles right out of the download.

Can I keyframe facial expressions with ARKomposeIt?

ARKomposeIt includes auto keyframing, so you can animate expressions directly, which the developer notes suits lip sync and emotional acting. As you adjust an expression's intensity or blend combinations, you get real-time facial feedback with instant shape key updates. Custom expressions you build can be saved and reapplied in other projects, and expressions import and export across platforms for moving work between setups. Templates cover core emotions, speech visemes, fantasy, and cartoonic styles, so there's a starting point for different expressions.
