BFDS fire simulations is a Blender add-on built for creating and managing NIST Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) models. FDS is an open source large-eddy simulation (LES) code for low-speed flows, with an emphasis on smoke and heat transport from fires. Rather than entering complex geometry by hand, BFDS lets you use Blender's 3D tools to build and edit FDS entities directly in a familiar environment.
The add-on is aimed at fire safety engineers, researchers, and students, and keeps attention on the simulation itself instead of the geometry setup. It is the successor to the BlenderFDS project, a community-driven initiative first presented at the Blender Conference 2009 and developed continuously since.
BFDS can import and export FDS files from and to disk, and it can display geographic positions and convert coordinates. It works with Blender 4.5 LTS and newer, and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later.
