Box It stands out in the aescripts library for keeping the box tied to the text automatically, with percentage-based offsets that hold up when text length, scale, or position changes. Version 1.3.2 (November 2025) supports After Effects 2020 through 2026, and a demo video is available.
Box It adds a shape layer box beneath a text layer in After Effects, fitting the text precisely and updating automatically whenever the text changes. It works with paragraph text, vertical text (with Full Height), and in 3D. Applying it to a text layer adds effect controls to the text and creates a shape box with its own controls, so you can adjust several boxes individually or drive them all at once from the text layer.
Corner handling covers each individual corner, four profiles (convex, concave, flat, and step), and adjustable curvature for a squircle look, with the corner radius set in pixels or percent. Alignment options anchor boxes to the composition on the x and y axes with x, y, z position offsets, or to a parent layer across 25 positions, updating as the composition or text changes.
Additional controls include expansion, roundness, skew, minimum width and height, and matching a chosen layer's width or height. You can animate text separately from the box, push text just outside it for track mattes, and choose when the box reads the text to size itself: Current Time, Layer In, Mid, or Out Point, or a Custom Time.
Box It is best for creating dynamic text boxes and lower thirds in After Effects where the box needs to resize itself around changing text.

Box It lists compatibility with After Effects 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2020. That spread covers several years of releases, so most current and recent installations should be able to run it. Version 1.3.2, dated November 10, 2025, updated the licensing framework. If you are on a version outside that range, check the developer's page before installing to confirm it will work with your setup.
Box It works with paragraph text and with vertical text, though vertical text is supported only in the Full Height mode. It also works in 3D. When applied to a text layer, it adds effect controls to that layer and creates a shape layer box with its own controls. If you add several boxes, you can adjust each one individually or use the text layer's effect controls to change all of them at once.
Box It can trim a box to a perfect square no matter the text length, and setting the corner radius to 100% trims it to a perfect circle. You can also control each corner individually, choose from four profiles (convex, concave, flat, and step), and adjust curvature for a squircle. The corner radius uses either pixels or percent, with pixels keeping the radius unchanged as the box size changes, such as with multi-line text.
Box It lets you choose when the box reads the text layer to determine its size, which matters because text can change size over time, for example with text animators. The options are Current Time, Layer In Point, Layer Mid Point, Layer Out Point, and Custom Time, and you can set these for width and height individually. Percentage-based offsets also keep animations updating when the text length, scale, or position changes.

When you apply it, effect controls are added to the text layer and a shape layer box is created with its own controls, and layers it creates match the length of the text layer in the timeline.
