E3D Mografter FX earns its place for mapping Cinema 4D Mograph concepts onto Element 3D, with parameter names carried straight across. Worth noting it's a workflow helper that requires Element 3D, not a standalone plugin or a replacement for a real 3D application.
E3D Mografter FX is a toolset for After Effects that lets you control the Element 3D plugin much like Cinema 4D's Mograph module. It brings C4D-style generators — Cloner, Fracture and MoText — into After Effects, with each generator paired to an Effector layer. Element 3D is required to use it.
You move the Effector layer within After Effects' 3D space and adjust its options to animate clones, model sub-parts or 3D text characters. The default objects can be replaced with your own, and the parameters carry the same names as those in Cinema 4D's Mograph, so the controls feel familiar if you come from C4D.
Six pre-built Element 3D scenes cover common motion graphics work: Cloner in Linear, Radial, Grid Array and 3D Object modes, plus Fracture and MoText. These handle animated clones on a custom 3D mesh, multi-object exploding, dissolve or assembly effects, and animated 3D titles. E3D Mografter FX is a workflow helper rather than a plugin, and it doesn't do more than Element 3D already can. A 50-page user-guide and Maxon's online Cinema 4D help are available.
E3D Mografter FX is best for creating common Element 3D motion graphics in After Effects — animated clones on a custom mesh, multi-object exploding, dissolve or assembly effects, and animated 3D titles — particularly for users coming from Cinema 4D's Mograph.
E3D Mografter FX is completely free to download and use.
E3D Mografter FX supports a wide range of After Effects releases: 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, CC 2019, CC 2018, CC 2017, CC 2015.3, CC 2015, CC 2014, CC and CS6. Since Element 3D is required to run the toolset, you'll also need a compatible Element 3D installation in After Effects. CS6 users also have an extra step: pseudo-effects must be installed with the bundled installer to avoid missing-effect errors when opening the toolset.
E3D Mografter FX needs some pseudo-effects installed on After Effects CS6 to avoid 'Missing: effect' issues. Run the 'E3D Mografter FX – PE Installer.jsx' file, found in the 'CS6_installer' folder of the product ZIP, from After Effects' File menu under Scripts > Run script file. Restart After Effects before using the toolset. This step applies specifically to CS6; the more recent supported versions don't require it.
E3D Mografter FX requires Element 3D — it's a toolset that controls the Element 3D plugin rather than working on its own. Once Element 3D is installed in After Effects, you use Mografter FX's Cloner, Fracture and MoText generators and the Effector layer to drive your clones, model sub-parts and 3D text. Because it builds on Element 3D, it can't do more than Element 3D is already capable of; it mainly changes how you approach the workflow.
E3D Mografter FX is described as a toolset and workflow helper, not a plugin, and it won't replace a real 3D application. It mimics the objects and controls of Cinema 4D's Mograph module inside After Effects, driving Element 3D through generators and a movable Effector layer. It can't do anything beyond what Element 3D already offers on its own; the difference comes down to taste and working habits rather than added capability.
E3D Mografter FX is listed as free in our catalog. For current licensing terms and any conditions tied to using the toolset, check the developer's page. Keep in mind that Element 3D is required separately to run E3D Mografter FX, so you'll need that plugin in After Effects regardless of how the toolset itself is licensed. A licensing framework update also added macOS 10.15 support, worth noting if you're on that system.
