Why we like it

Springy FX earns its place in the toolfarm library as an After Effects toolset built entirely around jiggling secondary motion, driven by position, scale and rotation animation.

What is Springy FX?

Springy FX is a Fremox toolset for After Effects built entirely around jiggling secondary motion. It adds overlapping springy action to your layers based on their keyframed transform properties, whether you want a cartoon look or subtler overlapping action on your animations. The set includes nine tools, presented as buttons with icons that you can arrange as a horizontal row or a vertical column, with or without labels.

To use a position-based tool such as Bend, Shear, Squash & Stretch, Jiggle or Liquid, you select a layer with keyframed motion on its position and click the tool. The layer needs to be a solid, footage or precomp, since Shape and Text layers can't be deformed properly this way. A Bulge deformer can be driven by an animated scale and a Twist deformer by animated rotation, while the springy Parent constraint makes one selected layer follow another with a springy delay.

The Custom effect handles springy motion on numeric single-dimension properties that belong to an effect, including plugin properties like Element 3D or Joystick 'n' Sliders. Version 1.5 adds a dynamic Rope Connection that draws a springy rope as a Shape layer path between two selected layers.

Who is Springy FX best for?

Springy FX is best for motion designers and animators adding secondary motion and overlapping action to keyframed animations in After Effects.

How much does Springy FX cost?

Springy FX is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

What After Effects versions does Springy FX support?

Springy FX runs on After Effects 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2020, covering seven releases. The toolset installs and launches the same way on each of these versions: you restart After Effects, then launch SpringyFX.jsxbin from the Window menu and dock the panel wherever suits your layout. Because it works consistently across these releases, you can use it on projects sitting on different versions. For the current details and any version-specific notes, check the developer's page before installing.

How do I install Springy FX in After Effects?

Springy FX installs by restarting After Effects, then launching the toolset called SpringyFX.jsxbin from the Window menu; from there you can dock the panel wherever you like in your After Effects layout. The nine tools appear as buttons with icons that you can arrange as a horizontal row or a vertical column, with or without labels. Holding ALT (OPTION) while clicking a button opens a descriptive summary explaining what the tool is and how it works.

What layer types work with Springy FX deformers?

Springy FX's position-based deformers (Bend, Shear, Squash & Stretch, Jiggle and Liquid) require the layer to be a solid, footage or a precomp, since Shape and Text layers can't be deformed properly with this method. You start by selecting a layer with keyframed motion on its position, then click one of these tools to get a springy overlapping effect that reacts to the animation. A Bulge deformer can also be driven by an animated scale, and a Twist deformer by animated rotation.

Can Springy FX add springy motion to plugin effect properties?

Springy FX's Custom effect is its most advanced tool, applying springy motion to any numeric single-dimension property that belongs to an effect, based on the keyframed motion of a layer and axis you choose. Multi-dimension properties like position, along with dropdown lists and color, can't be handled, and transform, mask, geometry and group properties won't work either. It can drive properties on plugin effects such as Element 3D or Joystick 'n' Sliders.

Is Springy FX free?

Springy FX is listed as free in this catalog. Pricing and licensing terms can change over time, so for the current conditions check the developer's page before downloading. The set is built entirely around jiggling secondary motion and gathers its tools as buttons you click to apply overlapping springy action to keyframed layers. It includes a springy Parent constraint, seven jiggling deformers such as Bend, Jiggle and Liquid, a springy Custom effect for numeric properties, and a dynamic Rope Connection introduced in version 1.5.
