Essential Namer 2 earns its place in the aescripts library for a focused job: getting your most-used layer properties into the Essential Graphics Panel with custom naming, backed by Kbar support and broad After Effects version coverage.
Essential Namer 2 is an After Effects script that adds your most common layer properties to the Essential Graphics Panel without having to navigate to the active comp, adding custom property naming in the process. It runs through a compact UI built to fit in any workspace.
You can control layer naming by adding or removing the layer name, add the source text of a text layer with one click, and apply a custom prefix to names as they are added to the panel. Support for position separate dimensions is included, and all transform properties can be added for 3D layers. A checkbox automatically names the Essential Graphics Panel template to match your comp, and a match option changes the template name to the active comp name without adding extra properties.
Favorite functions can be added to Kbar, with Kbar icons included. Version 2.4.2 adds an option to auto-close the Essential Graphics Panel after a property is added. It supports After Effects from CC 2018 through 2026, and a demo video is available.
Essential Namer 2 is best for after Effects artists who build Essential Graphics Panel templates and want to add common layer properties and custom names without leaving their current view.
Essential Namer 2 is completely free to download and use.
Essential Namer 2 runs in After Effects across a wide range of releases, listed as compatible with 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, CC 2019, and CC 2018. That span covers both current and older installations, so it fits into established projects as well as recent versions. If you're on a build outside that list, check the developer's page for the latest compatibility details before installing.
Essential Namer 2 added Kbar support so you can add its favorite functions directly to Kbar, and it includes Kbar icons for those functions. This lets you trigger the script's actions from your Kbar setup rather than only through the main UI. Kbar support arrived in version 2.4, and a later fix ensures the main UI opens when no arguments are entered. For the full Kbar setup steps, see the developer's page.
Essential Namer 2 includes an Auto checkbox that closes the Essential Graphics Panel after a property has been added. After Effects doesn't allow properties to be added to the panel without opening it, so this option lets the script close the panel once the addition is done. The developer suggests keeping the panel as small as possible and undocked to make the process discreet. This option was introduced in version 2.4.2.
Essential Namer 2 is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, so for the current details on pricing, usage rights, and any license framework, check the developer's page on aescripts before you download. The script has gone through several updates since its initial release, including an updated license framework in an earlier version, so confirming the present terms there is the safest approach.
