FilmConvert Halation reproduces the red glow that appears around bright parts of an image when footage is shot on film. Halation is a by-product of celluloid: light refracts off the film's anti-halation backing and back into the red channel, most commonly on bright sources like lamps, car headlights and neon signs. The plugin mimics where that halation would naturally occur if shot on film.
It runs as a standalone plugin that fits into any workflow, and is also available as an add-on to FilmConvert Nitrate. View Halation Alone controls let you see where halation is placed on your footage, and the settings are fully customizable — stick with the defaults or adjust them to reach the look you want.
FilmConvert Halation works with Adobe CC 2018 and later, DaVinci Resolve 16 and later, and Final Cut Pro 10.6.1 and later. It supports macOS 10.15 and up, including Apple Silicon, as well as Windows 10 or 11.
