Why we like it

Font Collect earns its place in the aescripts library by applying a familiar After Effects idea, collecting footage, to fonts, gathering a project's locally installed typefaces and logging the results in a single pass.

What is Font Collect?

Font Collect is a script for After Effects that automatically gathers the fonts used in a project. The workflow mirrors the way After Effects collects footage, applying the same idea to typefaces so the fonts a project depends on can be pulled together in one pass.

The script collects locally installed fonts and does not collect Adobe fonts. After a run, its collected fonts log reports the number of fonts collected along with the number of Adobe fonts. Font Collect can also collect fonts in languages other than English, so it isn't limited to Latin-only typefaces. A debug mode, activated by Shift+clicking, logs all the processes of the script for when you need to see what happened during a collection.

Compatibility spans After Effects 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2020, along with CC 2019 through CC 2014, covering both current and older installations. The download includes an installation and usage guide. Version 1.6 was released in November 2021, and a demo video is available.

Who is Font Collect best for?

Font Collect is best for after Effects users who need to gather the locally installed fonts a project uses and keep a log of what was collected.

Frequently asked questions

What After Effects versions does Font Collect support?

Font Collect is listed as compatible with After Effects 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2020, as well as CC 2019, CC 2018, CC 2017, CC 2015.3, CC 2015 and CC 2014. That range covers most modern installations along with several older releases, so teams still running legacy setups can use it alongside newer versions. If you're unsure whether your specific build is covered, check the developer's page on aescripts for the current compatibility details before installing.

Does Font Collect collect Adobe fonts?

Font Collect gathers only locally installed fonts and does not collect Adobe fonts. Its collected fonts log does, however, show the number of fonts collected along with the number of Adobe fonts, so you can see how many typefaces fell outside its scope after a run. If your project relies on Adobe fonts, those fall outside what the script pulls together, since it focuses on the fonts installed on your system rather than gathering everything a project references.

How do I enable debug mode in Font Collect?

Font Collect includes a debug mode that you activate by Shift+clicking, and it logs all the processes of the script as it runs. This gives you a record of what the script does during a collection, which can help when you're trying to understand an issue. The download also includes an installation and usage guide, so you can reference the intended steps for running the script and for using debug mode alongside a normal collection whenever you need them.

Does Font Collect work with non-English fonts?

Font Collect is able to collect fonts in languages other than English, so non-English typefaces installed on your system are included when it gathers a project's fonts. Alongside that, its collected fonts log reports how many fonts were collected. If you work on multilingual projects, this means the script isn't limited to Latin-only typefaces when pulling together the fonts your project uses, and it handles the locally installed fonts across those languages in the same collection pass.

Is Font Collect free?

Font Collect is listed as free here in our catalog. Because licensing terms can change over time, check the developer's page on aescripts for the current details before you download. The download bundle includes an installation and usage guide, so once you have it you'll find the steps for setting up and running the script inside that package rather than needing to look for instructions elsewhere. A demo video is also available if you want a look first.
