Why we like it

Geometric Filter earns its place in the aescripts library as an artistic footage stylizer, offering finer control over the geometric result than style-transfer approaches while spanning both After Effects and Premiere Pro.

What is Geometric Filter?

Geometric Filter converts footage into a geometric approximation using a custom proximity matching algorithm that can trace contours and similar regions, lending the result a human touch. The developer describes the output as somewhat similar to what style-transfer machine-learning algorithms produce, but with much finer control over the result.

The plugin ships with twenty style presets and six geometric primitives: lines, curves, triangles, squares, circles, and rectangles. Parameters cover shape count, size, size growth, line width, fill, opacity, angle range, recursion steps, luminosity limits, fade behaviour, and grid randomization. A Composite On Original option lays the filter output over the source image, handy for covering up unfilled areas.

It's aimed at artistic audiences who want to simulate hand-drawn styles in music videos, visualizations, and VJ work. Version 1.2.1 added a Filter Intensity parameter for modulating the strength of the filter, and the plugin runs across After Effects and Premiere Pro releases from CS6 through 2026.

Who is Geometric Filter best for?

Geometric Filter is best for artists simulating hand-drawn styles in music videos, visualizations, and VJ work across After Effects and Premiere Pro.

How much does Geometric Filter cost?

Geometric Filter is completely free to download and use.

Key features

  • Twenty style presets for quickly starting with a particular expression
  • Six geometric primitives to draw with: lines, curves, triangles, squares, circles, and rectangles
  • Recursion Steps that search for continuous stretches of similar color in the same direction for more traced outlines
  • Composite On Original to enable filter output over the original image
  • Controls for shape count, size, size growth, line width, fill, and opacity
  • Minimum and Maximum Luminosity limits to skip too-dark or too-bright areas
