GPUDog earns its place in the aescripts library for pairing a growing set of real-time GPU effects with a live WGSL shader editor and an importer that converts Shadertoy, ISF and plain GLSL for Pro users.
GPUDog is a growing pack of real-time GPU effects for After Effects, spanning glitch, distort, color and generative gpuppies rendered live via WebGPU or Metal. It works with After Effects 2026, 2025, 2024 and 2023.
The plugin is split into a free tier and a Pro tier. Free includes all 13 gpuppies at full quality and lets you preview every pro gpuppy with a watermark, while the custom shader editor stays locked. Pro carries everything in Free, adds all 34 pro gpuppies with no watermark, unlocks the custom WGSL shader editor, ships new gpuppies as they arrive, and covers 1 seat.
For shader work, GPUDog includes a live WGSL editor and an importer that auto-detects the dialect across Shadertoy, ISF and plain GLSL. It keeps your variable names, converting only syntax and types, and validates output against the same compiler the plugin renders with. Add your own parameters and the shader shows up as a brand-new effect.
GPUDog is best for after Effects artists working with real-time GPU effects and writing or importing WGSL, Shadertoy, ISF or GLSL shaders.
GPUDog is completely free to download and use.
GPUDog runs inside After Effects and is compatible with the 2026, 2025, 2024 and 2023 releases. The current release is version 1.3.9, updated on July 1, 2026, which fixed an issue where the panel could incorrectly display a "Plugin not detected" message and prompt for subscription when GPUDog was installed in After Effects' default Plug-ins folder; the panel now provides a dismissible hint if the effect cannot be reached. For any versions beyond those listed, check the developer's page.
GPUDog comes in a free tier and a Pro tier. The free version includes all 13 free gpuppies at full quality and lets you preview every pro gpuppy with a watermark, though the custom shader editor is locked. Pro includes everything in Free plus all 34 pro gpuppies with no watermark, the custom WGSL shader editor, new gpuppies as they ship, and 1 seat. This catalog lists GPUDog as free; check the developer's page for current licensing.
GPUDog's importer auto-detects the shader dialect, handling Shadertoy, ISF and plain GLSL. It keeps your variable names and converts only syntax and types, and the output is validated against the same compiler the plugin renders with. If you add your own parameters, the shader shows up as a brand-new effect. Recent updates also had the GLSL importer preserve the leading comment block and add source attribution and license information, including author, source URL and license obligations, in the import dialog.
GPUDog is installed from aescripts.com and runs in After Effects 2026, 2025, 2024 and 2023. Version 1.3.9 addressed a case where the panel could incorrectly report "Plugin not detected" and prompt for subscription when GPUDog was placed in After Effects' default Plug-ins folder, and the panel now shows a dismissible hint if the effect cannot be reached. For step-by-step setup details, refer to the developer's page.
