Import From earns its place in the aescripts library as a compact, single-purpose panel: it puts project and favorite folders one click away from the native Import Window, with Explorer or Finder access on Alt-click.
Import From adds a docked panel to After Effects for opening the native Import Window directly at your project directories or saved favorite folders. A single click starts the import, and Alt-clicking opens the same folder in Windows Explorer or macOS Finder.
The panel keeps an ultra-slim 30px width so it stays docked without crowding a workspace layout. Dedicated buttons import from the folder containing the .aep file, its parent directory, or its grandparent directory. A [+] button adds a custom folder as a favorite, numbered buttons import from each registered favorite path, and the gear button opens a dialog to reorder or delete them. Relative Path Mapping tracks project migrations and imports from the current .aep location, while the favorites list is stored in After Effects preferences.
Import From runs on After Effects 2026 through CC 2019. As a script, it installs by copying the Import From.jsx file into the ScriptUI Panels folder and restarting After Effects.
Import From is best for after Effects users who import assets from their project folder or recurring custom folders and want to skip manual navigation.

Import From is compatible with After Effects 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, and CC 2019. That range covers current releases as well as several older ones, so most active After Effects installations should be able to run the panel. Version 1.0 is the initial release, dated June 4, 2026. Import From installs as a ScriptUI panel. Copy the provided Import From.jsx file into the ScriptUI Panels folder inside your After Effects installation directory, then restart After Effects if it is currently running. Once After Effects reopens, the panel becomes available and can be docked into your workspace. Because the panel keeps an ultra-slim 30px width, it fits alongside other panels without taking up much room, which suits a tool you keep open while working.
Import From shows the alert "Please save the After Effects project first" because several of its buttons work relative to the location of the .aep file. The [P] button imports from the folder containing the project, the [↑] button from the parent directory, and the [⇈] button from the grandparent directory. Without a saved project, those directories have no on-disk location to point to, so saving the .aep first lets Relative Path Mapping resolve the correct folders.
Import From stores its favorites list directly in After Effects preferences, so favorites disappearing after a restart points to that stored configuration not persisting. The panel is designed to keep user favorites between sessions through the preferences, and the gear button lets you reorder or delete them at any time. If your custom folders are not being retained after restarting, review the developer's page on aescripts for guidance tied to this behaviour.
