Isomatic FX sits in the aescripts library at popularity rank 586. It earns its place for handling isometric layouts in two modes within After Effects, with the added flexibility of toggling faked isometry on and off per layer while keeping the constraint sliders and position expression in place.
Isomatic FX brings isometric graphics into After Effects, offering two modes to work in: a faked 2D approach and a true 3D approach. The faked 2D mode includes Left, Right, and Top isometry buttons that apply an isometric appearance to a layer, along with three movement axis sliders and a position expression on the layer.
Since version 1.6, the Left, Right, and Top buttons work as toggles: clicking one a second time removes the faked isometry from a layer while keeping the three constraint sliders and the position expression intact. That lets you constrain and animate a layer, including illustrations that are already isometric, and enable or disable the faked isometry at any time.
The plugin runs on a broad span of After Effects releases, from CS6 through the 2026 version. It supports floating licenses, added in version 1.6.2, and version 1.8 moved licensing to a v4 framework required by newer After Effects versions where firewalls or antivirus software could block home-folder access. Version 1.8.2 fixed a licensing issue in that update. A demo video is available.
Isomatic FX is best for building isometric graphics and layouts in After Effects, in either faked 2D or true 3D.
Isomatic FX is completely free to download and use.
Isomatic FX runs across a wide range of After Effects versions, from CS6 through CC 2014, CC 2015, CC 2015.3, CC 2017, CC 2018, CC 2019, and the yearly releases 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026. That range covers legacy CS6 installs and current releases alike. Version 1.8.2, released October 25, 2024, fixed an issue with the V4 licensing framework, so it's the build to use on newer After Effects versions where firewalls or antivirus software can block access to the home folder.
Isomatic FX added support for floating licenses in version 1.6.2, released September 2, 2019, which also brought macOS 10.15 support to the licensing framework. Later, version 1.8 moved the licensing to a v4 framework, needed for newer After Effects versions where firewalls or antivirus software could block access to the home folder. Version 1.8 shouldn't be used because it won't work; the follow-up 1.8.2 fixed that licensing issue. For current licensing terms, check the developer's page.
Isomatic FX offers two modes to build isometric graphics in After Effects: a faked 2D mode and a true 3D mode. The faked 2D side includes Left, Right, and Top isometry buttons. Since version 1.6, re-clicking one of those buttons a second time removes the faked isometry from a layer but keeps the three constraint sliders and the position expression in place, so you can enable or disable the faked isometry on any layer while still constraining and animating it.
Isomatic FX is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, and the plugin has moved through several licensing framework updates, including floating license support added in 1.6.2 and a v4 framework introduced in version 1.8. For the current licensing details and download, check the developer's page on aescripts. Because the older 1.8 build won't work, use version 1.8.2 or later to avoid the licensing issue that release introduced.
