The developer notes that GIFs and videos are shown unedited, so the motion capture is presented with its real strengths, weaknesses and current limitations.
Mocap Lite is the light version of Stellart's Mocap Pro for Blender. It captures body, facial and finger motion from a video or image source and transfers the result to any rigged character. The workflow is direct: install its data, select the source video or image, configure a few settings if needed, then click the Motion Capture button. Compared with Mocap Pro, the Lite version has the same features except the Auto-Rigger, export in FBX/GLTF, and the utility tools.
Beyond captured motion, Mocap Lite includes retargeting and transfer, an Assets Management system to save or load assets and open asset windows, and an Add & Apply keyframes feature that applies the current pose until the action ends. Preference configurations can be saved and loaded so settings aren't lost after an update. As of version 1.2.0, webcam Live Facial Motion Capture is also supported.
Updates are free. The add-on is compatible with Linux and Windows, and documentation plus a YouTube channel with demos and tutorials are available. Customer service is offered seven days a week.
Mocap Lite is best for blender users who want to extract body, facial and finger motion from a video or image and apply it to rigged characters.
Mocap Lite is completely free to download and use.
Mocap Lite is listed as compatible with Blender versions 4.5 through 5.0, and the source specifically notes compatibility with Blender 5.0.0. It is a Blender add-on and is marked as Blender Extension compatible. The listing also references the Cycles, Eevee, Arnold and Blender-Internal render engines. If you run a Blender version outside this range, check the developer's page or documentation to confirm before installing so you know it works with your setup.
Mocap Lite is compatible with both Linux and Windows. On Windows, if the add-on throws errors on first opening, the developer notes you need to install the latest VC_redist from Microsoft. On Linux, you may see a small error message about "self" after installing the data; the developer describes this as a Blender bug that has no effect on the add-on, so it can be safely disregarded. Linux support was added in version 1.1.1.
Mocap Lite has the same features as Mocap Pro, except for three things: the Auto-Rigger, export in FBX/GLTF, and the utility tools are not included in the Lite version. Everything else, including body, facial and finger motion capture, retargeting and transfer, the Assets Management system, and the Add & Apply keyframes feature, is shared between the two. If you need auto-rigging or FBX/GLTF export, the Pro version covers those functions instead.
Mocap Lite is designed to be straightforward: install its data, select the source video or image, configure a few settings if needed, then click the Motion Capture button, and the process is complete. The captured body, facial and finger motion is then transferred to any rigged character. Documentation is available, along with a YouTube channel featuring demos and tutorials. For questions, feature requests or bug reports, the developer can be contacted through Superhive Market or a Discord server.
Mocap Lite is listed as free in this catalog; for current licensing details, check the developer's page. The developer states that updates are free and always will be. The add-on is distributed under the GPL license. To be notified when a new version is available, you need to give consent to receive emails, as the developer notes they otherwise cannot reach you about updates. Customer service is available seven days a week.
