MotionSpice 2 stands out in the aescripts library for pairing a one-click preset browser with tools that turn your own comps and layers into reusable assets. The 2.2.0 update adds LayerToAsset and the option to hide motions from the panel.
MotionSpice 2 is a motion asset toolkit for After Effects. Its library holds 110+ motion presets across 15 categories, each applied with one click. Smart Import tools — Auto Color, Snap Drop, and Asset Shuffle — handle bringing motions in, with multi and batch modes, and Alt+click swaps one asset for another. Hover previews and auto-generated GIFs let you see each motion before you use it.
Beyond the built-in presets, MotionSpice 2 turns your own work into reusable assets. CompToAsset saves a whole composition, while LayerToAsset saves just the layers you select, keeping their effects, keyframes and expressions. Saved layers land in a new "MyLayers" category with an animated preview; a single layer drops in as a plain layer and holds its on-screen position, and multiple layers arrive as one precomp. Your open project is never modified.
Organize with Collections and Tags, hide motions you don't use to declutter, and work with FFX presets, usage history, multilingual search, and settings export and import. It's built to stay smooth even with large libraries.
MotionSpice 2 is best for after Effects artists who want to browse motion presets in one click and build a reusable library from their own compositions and layers.
MotionSpice 2 is completely free to download and use.
MotionSpice 2 is compatible with After Effects 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, and 2022. If you're running any of those releases, the browsing, Smart Import, and asset-saving features are supported. For versions outside that range, or to confirm the latest compatibility before installing, check the developer's page. Keeping After Effects current within the supported line is the safest way to make sure the panel behaves as described.
MotionSpice 2's LayerToAsset saves the layers you select in a composition as a reusable motion asset, right from the panel. You give it a name, and the layers — along with their effects, keyframes and expressions — are saved into a new "MyLayers" category with an animated preview. A single-layer asset drops in as a plain layer and keeps its on-screen position even when the destination comp is a different size, while multiple layers come in as one precomp. Your open project is never modified.
MotionSpice 2 is built to stay smooth even with large libraries. In big categories of 100 or more items, off-screen cards skip rendering entirely, thumbnail decoding is throttled, and thumbnails are released when you scroll away or collapse a category. That keeps the panel painted and memory flat no matter how long you browse, so cards no longer drop out as grey empty tiles. It's aimed at browsing sizeable collections without the panel slowing down.
MotionSpice 2 is listed as free in this catalog. Because licensing terms can change over time, check the developer's page for the current details before you rely on it for a project. That page is also the place to confirm which edition or version you're getting and any conditions attached to use. Listing it as free here reflects how it's cataloged rather than a guarantee of future terms.
