Network Clipboard 2 earns its place in the aescripts library by handling cross-application copy and paste directly, sparing the step of saving out reduced projects to share files between team members.
Network Clipboard 2 is a copy-and-paste tool for After Effects that moves comps, layers, nodes and scenes between different programs across your network. Instead of saving out reduced projects to share with your team, you copy in one application and paste in another.
Beyond After Effects, it connects with Cinema 4D and Houdini, with FBX support on the After Effects side. You can paste an item into a project or directly into the active comp, and it stores copy history for as long as you like so you can paste any earlier item, not just the most recent one. An environment variable can set the clipboard directory, the username on copies can be overridden, and floating license support is included.
Built by Matt Tillman and listed in the aescripts library, Network Clipboard 2 covers a wide span of After Effects, Cinema 4D, Houdini and Maya versions. A demo video is available on the developer's page.
Network Clipboard 2 is best for teams and artists moving comps, layers, nodes and scenes between After Effects, Cinema 4D, Houdini and Maya across a shared network.
Network Clipboard 2 is completely free to download and use.
Network Clipboard 2 supports a broad range of After Effects releases, covering After Effects 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2020, along with CC 2019, CC 2018 and CC 2017. That range lets teams running different After Effects versions still copy and paste comps and layers between machines across the network. If you work in an older or newer build than those listed, check the developer's page to confirm the current supported versions before installing it in your setup.
Network Clipboard 2 reaches beyond After Effects to connect with Cinema 4D, Houdini and Maya. On the Cinema 4D side it covers 2025, 2024, 2023, S26, R25, S24, R23, S22, R21, R20 and R19; Houdini support spans 21, 20.5, 20, 19, 18 and 17; and Maya coverage includes 2023, 2022, 2020, 2019 and 2018. This lets you copy and paste nodes and scenes between these programs across your network.
Network Clipboard 2 is listed as free in this catalog, so you can add it to your pipeline without a purchase here. It also includes floating license support, which matters for teams managing access across multiple machines. Licensing terms can change over time, so check the developer's page for the current details before you rely on it in production. Pricing and license options shown there take precedence over what you see in any catalog entry.
Network Clipboard 2 gives you two paste destinations in After Effects: you can paste an item into the project, or send it straight into the active comp. It also stores copy history for as long as you like, so you can go back and paste any item from that history rather than only the most recent copy. FBX support for After Effects rounds out how items move in and out of the application.
