Why we like it

Plotter earns its place in the aescripts library for converting footage and images into vector art, with output that can be exported to SVG or converted to shape layers.

What is Plotter?

Plotter is a plugin from Motion Boutique that turns footage and images into vector art inside After Effects, using various algorithms to build the result. A range of settings lets you fine-tune the conversion, and the vector output can be composited over the original footage.

For colour, Plotter can colorize the result using the colours of the source, and it works in both RGB and CMYK color modes. Finished vector art can be exported to an SVG file or converted to a shape layer for further editing in your composition.

Plotter is compatible with After Effects from 2020 through 2026, including 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. Version 1.0 was the initial release, dated July 4, 2022. A sample project matching the promo video is available to download, along with a demo video.

Frequently asked questions

Which After Effects versions does Plotter support?

Plotter is compatible with After Effects releases from 2020 through 2026, covering 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. That range means it runs on both older projects still on earlier versions and current installations. Version 1.0 was released on July 4, 2022 as the initial release. If you are unsure which build you have, check your After Effects version number against that list, and refer to Motion Boutique's page for any details specific to your setup.

Can Plotter export its vector output?

Plotter can export results to an SVG file or convert them to a shape layer inside After Effects. The SVG option produces a standalone vector file, while the shape layer route keeps the output editable within your composition. Before export, you can fine-tune the conversion with the available settings and composite the vector result over the original footage. For colour, Plotter can pick up the source's own colours and work in RGB and CMYK modes. See Motion Boutique's page for full details on each output option.

Does Plotter support different colour modes?

Plotter supports both RGB and CMYK colour modes, and it can colorize the vector output using the colours of the source footage or image. Combined with the range of settings, this lets you adjust how the vector art picks up and represents colour. The result can be composited over the original footage, and finished output can be exported to SVG or converted to a shape layer. For the full list of colour controls, refer to Motion Boutique's page.

Is Plotter free to use?

Plotter is listed as free here in the catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, so check Motion Boutique's page for the current details before you download. A sample project matching the promo video is available to download, so you can open the same examples and see how the settings are arranged. A demo video is also available. These resources let you review the plugin's setup and outputs directly rather than relying on a description alone.
