Why we like it

Polyline earns a spot in the aescripts library as a discontinued Motion Boutique tool for animated polygonal lines, now offered name-your-own-price and updated for Apple Silicon. Since the developer no longer supports it, treat the final 1.2 release as-is.

What is Polyline?

Polyline is a plugin from Motion Boutique for After Effects that creates colorful, fully controllable animated polygonal lines. It runs on Apple Silicon and is offered on a name-your-own-price basis.

The plugin builds polylines from motion paths, and a few known constraints come with it. The total length of a polyline cannot exceed the maximum size of a composition, which is 30,000px. Some motion paths produce degenerate cases where a clean polyline cannot be constructed, such as a chain of orthogonal segments across the x, y, then z planes. Polyline relies on the built-in Corner Pin and CC Power Pin effects, which can occasionally show display issues, and modifying segment rotation can sometimes cause noticeable texture deformation.

Polyline has been discontinued, and the developer no longer provides support for it. A final version was released as name-your-own-price, adding After Effects 2023 compatibility and Apple Silicon support. It remains compatible with After Effects releases from CS5.5 through 2024.

Who is Polyline best for?

Polyline is best for after Effects users who want colorful, animated polygonal lines and don't require ongoing developer support.

How much does Polyline cost?

Polyline is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Which After Effects versions does Polyline support?

Polyline supports a wide range of After Effects releases, from CS5.5 up through the 2024 version. The listed compatibility covers CS5.5, CS6, CC, CC 2014, CC 2015, CC 2015.3, CC 2017, CC 2018, CC 2019, and the 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 releases. The final 1.2 release added 2023 compatibility. Because the plugin has been discontinued, this is the last version available, so releases beyond 2024 are not listed in its compatibility.

Is Polyline compatible with Apple Silicon Macs?

Polyline is Apple Silicon compatible as of its final 1.2 release, dated May 8, 2023. That update was released after the product was discontinued and was provided as a name-your-own-price download, alongside added After Effects 2023 compatibility. Because Motion Boutique no longer supports the plugin, version 1.2 is the last release, so further platform changes are not planned. For the current download and licensing terms, check the developer's page.

Is Polyline still supported by Motion Boutique?

Polyline has been discontinued, and Motion Boutique no longer provides support for it. The developer released a final version, 1.2, on May 8, 2023, as a name-your-own-price download, which added After Effects 2023 compatibility and Apple Silicon support. That release is the last one, so no further updates or fixes are expected. Anyone using it should treat the current build as final and refer to the developer's page for download details.

Is Polyline free to download?

Polyline is listed as free here and is offered by Motion Boutique on a name-your-own-price basis for its final 1.2 release. Because the product has been discontinued, this final version is what remains available, and it is provided without ongoing support from the developer. Name-your-own-price means you set the amount yourself. Pricing and licensing terms can change, so check the developer's page for the current details before you download.
