POP Captions earns its spot in the aescripts library as a focused caption-animation tool for After Effects. Keeping every controller on one layer and syncing font settings across layers cuts down on jumping between the text and background layers.
POP Captions is an After Effects plugin from L22Design for animating captions. You select a text layer and click to make it pop, with all the controllers kept on a single layer.
Font and font size stay synced between layers, so you don't need to touch the background layer separately. A checkbox can automatically calculate how many words to pop based on the number of words on your text layer, and another checkbox controls whether the caption background animates. Background and text colors are set individually.
Version 2.0 was released on January 21, 2026, and lists compatibility with After Effects 2026, 2025, 2024, and 2023. This version fixed a bug where the expressions did not work in After Effects running in languages other than English. A demo video is available on the developer's page.
