ProjectNormalizer earns its place in the Adobe Exchange library by tackling a narrow but frustrating cross-platform snag: the NFC/NFD filename mismatch that can turn media relinking into a one-by-one chore.
Moving a Premiere Pro project between Mac and Windows often forces you to re-link media. Checking the 'Relink others automatically' option links files to some extent, but it doesn't always work, leaving you to select and link media one by one. macOS stores filenames in decomposed form, known as NFD normalization, so Windows and Mac don't exchange the data well and files don't get caught in searches.
ProjectNormalizer addresses this NFC/NFD issue, one of the causes of difficult media relinking. You press the 'for Windows' button to create a project file to be opened on Windows, or the 'for Mac' button for one to be opened on Mac, select the .prproj file you want to convert, and a new project file is saved to the desktop.
Released as version 1.0.0, ProjectNormalizer works with Premiere Pro 13.0 and later. It appears in the Adobe Exchange library at popularity rank 95.
ProjectNormalizer is best for editors moving Premiere Pro projects between macOS and Windows who run into media relinking problems caused by NFD filename normalization.
ProjectNormalizer is completely free to download and use.
ProjectNormalizer is compatible with Premiere Pro 13.0 and later, so projects running on that version or a newer release can use it. It's a fit if you regularly move project files between macOS and Windows and hit media relinking trouble tied to filename normalization. If you're on a build older than 13.0, you'll need to update Premiere Pro before running the plugin.
ProjectNormalizer works from two buttons. Press 'for Windows' when you want a project file to be opened on Windows, or 'for Mac' when you want one to be opened on Mac. Then select the .prproj file you wish to convert in the file selection window. The plugin saves a new project file to the desktop. This is aimed at the NFC/NFD issue that can make cross-platform media relinking difficult.
ProjectNormalizer is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing terms, check the developer's page. The plugin is published by 884tak and reached version 1.0.0 with its initial release on 2023-11-24. It targets a specific cross-platform problem: because macOS stores filenames in decomposed form, or NFD normalization, Premiere Pro projects don't always relink media cleanly when moved between Mac and Windows.
ProjectNormalizer addresses the root of this problem. macOS stores filenames in decomposed form, known as NFD normalization, and the two systems don't exchange that data well, so files don't get caught in searches. When you open a Mac project in Windows and re-link media, the 'Relink others automatically' option links files to some extent but sometimes fails, forcing you to select and link media one by one. The plugin converts the project file to sidestep this NFC/NFD mismatch.
