pt_CropPrecomps is a script for After Effects from Paul Tuersley that crops nested compositions down to their image content. The result is a set of precomps sized to what they actually contain, which makes animating Photoshop imports easier.
The workflow starts in After Effects: import a Photoshop file as a Composition using the 'Cropped Layers' option in CS3 and CS4, or the 'Retain Layer Sizes' option in CS5. Open the main composition for the file you imported, then click the Crop Precomps button.
You can crop selected precomp layers only rather than the whole file, and the script supports Photoshop Vector Masks and non-square pixel aspect ratios. It runs across a wide range of After Effects versions, from CS3 through the 2026 release. A demo video is available on the developer's page.
