pt_TextEdit 2 earns its place in the aescripts library for handling project-wide text and style edits, from search and replace to fonts, colors and case changes, in a single script.
pt_TextEdit 2, developed by Paul Tuersley, is a script for After Effects centered on searching, replacing and editing text and styles across a project. It works with text content along with fonts and colors, can search and replace fonts, and can find missing fonts on CC 2014.1 and later.
Beyond straight text edits, it includes a color search option and can display colors as 8-bit values (0-255), web hex, or decimal (0.0-1.0). It reaches into nested comps when searching, covers all text keyframes, and can convert text to upper or lowercase. Editing tracking is supported in CS5 and above, and leading is among the properties it works with.
Sorting options let you order results by layer, font size and color, and an option can auto-reveal text layers in the project. A max layer limit for auto apply helps avoid slowdowns. The script runs across a broad range of After Effects versions, from older CS releases through the 2026 release.

pt_TextEdit 2 runs across a wide range of After Effects versions, from CS4, CS5, CS5.5 and CS6 through the CC releases (CC, CC 2014, CC 2015, CC 2015.3, CC 2017, CC 2018, CC 2019) and the year-numbered versions 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. A few features have their own minimums: finding missing fonts requires CC 2014.1 or later, and editing tracking works in CS5 and above. Version 2.86 fixed a launch issue on 2024 and Beta.
pt_TextEdit 2 can search and replace fonts across a project, a feature added in version 2.85. That same update added the ability to find missing fonts, which requires CC 2014.1 or later. Earlier, version 2.7 improved the Add Font function and fixed an issue on macOS Monterey. Fonts sit alongside text content, colors, tracking and leading among the properties the script can search and edit.
pt_TextEdit 2 can search nested comps, an option added in version 2.5. That release also introduced sort options for font size and color, plus a max layer limit for auto apply to prevent slowdowns. Searches cover all text keyframes as well, which arrived in version 2.8 alongside the search and replace feature and an option to auto-reveal text layers in the project.
pt_TextEdit 2 includes a color search option, added in version 2.7. Matched colors can be shown as 8-bit values (0 to 255), web hex, or decimal (0.0 to 1.0), so you can read them in the format you prefer. Color is also one of the fields the script can sort results by, alongside layer and font size, which were introduced across versions 2.5 and 2.6.
