Raytracing Relight earns its place in the aescripts library by bringing physically-based raytraced relighting into the comp, driven by depth and normal maps rather than a re-render or re-shoot. A single license runs on both After Effects and Nuke.
Raytracing Relight brings 2.5D raytraced relighting into After Effects, letting you add, modify, or completely replace lighting on video or still footage without re-rendering, re-shooting, or regenerating. It builds on physically-based shading and reads your depth and normal maps to produce true light interaction inside the comp.
The tool uses a metallic/roughness PBR workflow so materials respond the way they do in real life, and its thickness estimation lets light transmit through and around objects for shadows that match their structure. You can place up to three independent lights per instance, each with controls for position, intensity, radius, and tint, choosing between directional, omnidirectional, and spotlight types alongside ambient light. Soft and hard shadows, translucent lighting, ambient occlusion, and optional denoising round out the shading options.
Raytracing Relight supports five depth map types and several output modes, including final result, white albedo, and shadows only. A single license covers both After Effects and Nuke. The tool currently runs on Windows only.
Raytracing Relight is best for after Effects artists relighting video or stills who need rim lighting to separate talent from background, time-of-day shifts, plate matching between shots, or unified lighting across CG and live-action elements.
Raytracing Relight is completely free to download and use.
Raytracing Relight supports After Effects 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, and 2022. Beyond After Effects, the same tool works with Nuke and NukeX across versions 17.0, 16.0, 15.0, 14.0, 13.2, 13.1, 13.0, and 12.2, and a single license covers both host applications. Note that Raytracing Relight currently runs on Windows only, so make sure your setup matches before installing. Check the developer's page for the latest details on supported releases.
Raytracing Relight is currently supported on Windows only, so macOS is not covered at this time. To run it you'll need Windows OS along with a Vulkan 1.3+ compatible GPU. If you work across After Effects and Nuke, the same license covers both applications, but the Windows requirement applies to each. For the most current platform support, refer to the developer's page.
Raytracing Relight requires a Vulkan 1.3+ compatible GPU, and the developer recommends 8GB or more of dedicated GPU memory. It also needs Windows OS, since the tool is currently supported on Windows only. Because it performs real-time raytraced relighting, the GPU handles the shading work, so meeting these requirements matters for smooth operation. Confirm your hardware against the developer's page before installing.
Raytracing Relight uses a single license that allows you to run it on both After Effects and Nuke. That covers the supported After Effects versions from 2022 through 2026 as well as Nuke and NukeX across their listed versions. Keep in mind the tool is currently supported on Windows only, so both hosts need to be running on Windows. See the developer's page for full licensing terms.
Raytracing Relight is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change, and the same license is designed to run on both After Effects and Nuke, so for the current pricing and license conditions it's best to check the developer's page directly. That page will also confirm platform requirements, since the tool is currently supported on Windows only. Review those details before you install.
