ScaleUp is a video-enhancing plugin from vimager that enlarges footage by up to 10 times with minimal image quality loss. It runs GPU-accelerated inside Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro and is available for Mac and Windows. Rather than interpolating pixels with traditional bilinear or bicubic methods, ScaleUp uses a neural network that analyzes large amounts of images and clips to increase resolution while preserving detail.
The AI processing works to reduce noise and even the block effects found in compressed video, and can recover lost textures and details from low-resolution images. Controls are kept simple, producing upscaled images with a single click. Two AI modes are included: Sharp mode aims for better perceptual quality with fine details for a more realistic look, while Cartoon mode targets cartoon footage, preserving and enhancing edges while removing compression artifacts.
Because computation runs on the GPU through the Vulkan API, ScaleUp requires a GPU driver supporting Vulkan 1.1. Intel integrated GPUs are not supported, and a GPU with 3 GB of memory handles HD footage, with more recommended for UHD or higher resolutions.
