Why we like it

Super 3D earns a spot in the aescripts library for pairing one-click GLB and GLTF import with the ability to convert 3D layers into solids for effects, inside an extension that keeps receiving updates.

What is Super 3D?

Super 3D is an After Effects extension from Motion Design School for bringing 3D content into compositions. It adds 3D objects in the GLB and GLTF formats with a single click, and lets you replace models or textures on existing layers, even ones that are already animated.

Beyond importing, Super 3D converts 3D layers into solid layers so standard After Effects effects can be applied to them. Recent releases added custom materials with adjustable PBR parameters — metallic, roughness, normal intensity and base color — along with improvements to extruded shapes and the conversion of text and complex shapes to 3D. A responsive UI rounds out the extension.

The current version is 1.4.6, released June 3, 2026, and it runs in After Effects 2026, 2025 and 2024. It sits at rank 542 in the aescripts library. A demo video is available on the developer's page.

Frequently asked questions

Does Super 3D work with After Effects 2026?

Super 3D supports After Effects 2026, 2025 and 2024, so if you're on any of those releases the extension is built to run with your version. The current build is 1.4.6, released June 3, 2026, and its changelog notes improved cross-platform path handling for both Windows and macOS. For versions outside that range, check the developer's page for the most current compatibility details before installing.

What 3D file formats can Super 3D import?

Super 3D imports 3D objects in the GLB and GLTF formats, and you can add them to a composition with a single click. Beyond a fresh import, it lets you replace models or textures on existing layers, including layers that are already animated. Version 1.4.6 fixed GLTF model import failing for embedded models, so that path was addressed in the latest release. For the full list of supported content, the developer's page is the place to look.

Can Super 3D apply After Effects effects to 3D layers?

Super 3D can convert 3D layers into solid layers, which lets you apply standard After Effects effects to them. This conversion is one of its core features alongside importing and replacing models. Recent updates also improved converting text and complex shapes to 3D and the smoothness of extruded shapes at any composition size. If you work with effects on top of 3D content, this layer conversion is the mechanism it provides.

Is Super 3D free?

Super 3D is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change, so for the current details it's best to check the developer's page directly. The extension uses the aescripts licensing framework, which was updated to version 4.1.12 in a recent release and handles how licenses are managed. That framework sits behind activation, so the developer's page will carry the authoritative, up-to-date licensing information for your situation.
