Trim to Layer earns its place in the aescripts library by focusing on one timing task: trimming a layer to the one above, below, or between both, split across three dedicated scripts.
Trim to Layer is a script for After Effects by Lloyd Alvarez that trims the selected layer to the layer above, the layer below, or to fit between the two. The functionality is split across three scripts: Trim To Layer-above, Trim To Layer-below, and Trim To Layer-fit.
Version 2.1.1 includes a dockable UI and KBar support, along with direct argument support added in an earlier update. The 'Trim to Fit Layer Above and Below' mode was introduced in version 2.0, and the most recent release focused on improved error correction.
Compatibility reaches from After Effects CS6 through the 2026 release, covering CS6, the CC releases, and the numbered versions in between. First released in 2008, the script continues to list support across this range on the developer's page.
Trim to Layer is best for after Effects users who want to trim a layer to match the layer above, the layer below, or fit between the two.
Trim to Layer is completely free to download and use.
Trim to Layer lists compatibility with After Effects 2026, along with the 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2020 releases. Support extends back through CC 2019, CC 2018, CC 2017, CC 2015.3, CC 2015, CC 2014, CC, and CS6, so the script covers a wide span of versions. First released in 2008, it has continued to list support across newer releases. Check the developer's page on aescripts for the current list.
Trim to Layer is listed as free in this catalog. Pricing and licensing can change over time, so the developer's page on aescripts is the place to confirm the current terms before you download. The version listed here is 2.1.1, released on November 13, 2020, which focused on improved error correction. Earlier updates added direct argument support and the fit mode.
Trim to Layer ships as three separate scripts: Trim To Layer-above, Trim To Layer-below, and Trim To Layer-fit. The first two trim the selected layer to the layer above or below it, while the fit script trims the layer to fit between the two. The fit mode, labelled 'Trim to Fit Layer Above and Below,' was added in version 2.0 alongside the dockable UI and KBar support.
Trim to Layer includes a dockable UI, which was added in version 2.0. The same release introduced KBar support and the mode that trims a layer to fit between the layers above and below. A later update added direct argument support, and version 2.1.1 improved error correction. The script was first released in 2008, and these details are listed on the developer's page on aescripts.
