Uber Key earns its place in the aescripts library for a focused approach to animated path editing, condensing repeated keyframe adjustments into a single toggle-driven edit.
Uber Key by Aris Melachroinos is a script for After Effects that lets you make changes to an animated path by changing the path only once. You select your mask or shape path, switch on the Uber Key, modify your path points and/or curves, then switch off the Uber Key. Those modifications then apply to the rest of the keyframes.
If you want the changes to affect only certain keyframes rather than all of them, you can select those specific keyframes before switching off the Uber Key. The workflow centers on that single toggle, keeping path adjustments to one edit instead of repeating them across every keyframe.
Uber Key runs in After Effects and supports versions from CC 2015 through 2025. It was released in December 2023 as version 1.0. A demo video is available for those who want to see it before installing.
Uber Key is best for after Effects artists working with animated mask and shape paths who want to edit a path once and propagate the change across keyframes.
Uber Key is completely free to download and use.
Uber Key supports After Effects from CC 2015 through 2025, including CC 2015.3, CC 2017, CC 2018, CC 2019, and the 2020 through 2025 releases. The developer notes it works with CC 2015 and later; earlier versions might work but have not been tested. If you run a recent or slightly older release of After Effects, Uber Key should fit into your setup across that supported range without version-specific restrictions listed here.
Uber Key works through a single toggle. You select your mask or shape path, switch on the Uber Key, then modify the path points and/or curves. When you switch off the Uber Key, all of those modifications apply to the rest of the keyframes. This means you edit the path once rather than repeating the same adjustment across every keyframe in the animation.
Uber Key can apply changes to specific keyframes rather than all of them. To do this, select the keyframes you want to affect before switching off the Uber Key. The modifications you made to the path points and curves will then apply only to those selected keyframes, giving you control over whether an edit propagates across the whole animation or just a chosen subset.
Uber Key is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing terms and to download the script, check the developer's page on aescripts. The tool is currently at version 1.0, released in December 2023 as its initial release, and a demo video is available if you want to see the workflow before adding it to your After Effects setup.
