Why we like it

DFISH earns its place for splitting lens correction into separate inner and outer parameters, which gives more control over the correction across a wider range of lenses and cameras.

What is Zoetrope DFISH?

Zoetrope DFISH removes barrel distortion from pro fisheye lenses and action cam footage, turning curvy, fishbowl-style video into straight, wide-angle results. Its algorithm separates parameters for the inner and outer portions of the lens, accounting for a greater variety of lenses and cameras where distortion isn't linear across the whole image plane.

DFISH is OpenGL accelerated, leveraging native macOS graphics, so corrections render in realtime during playback. A horizon correction parameter handles footage from cameras mounted off axis, and a crop feature removes distortion artifacts at the edge of the frame when working with more extreme fisheye lenses.

The plugin ships with presets for common action cameras and fisheye lenses that you can use as a starting point and then tweak. You can also save your own presets for a particular lens or camera and apply them to all your footage. DFISH runs through FxFactory in Final Cut Pro X, Motion, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve on both Apple Silicon and Intel processors.

Who is Zoetrope DFISH best for?

Zoetrope DFISH is best for editors and VFX artists working with pro fisheye lenses or action cam footage who need to remove barrel distortion.

How much does Zoetrope DFISH cost?

Zoetrope DFISH is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Does Zoetrope DFISH require FxFactory to run?

Zoetrope DFISH requires Noise Industries FxFactory to run, which is available as a free download. FxFactory Pro is a paid version that shares the same system requirements as the free version. For current, detailed system requirements, refer to the FxFactory page on the developer's site. Once FxFactory is installed, DFISH becomes available inside your supported host applications, including After Effects, Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve, on both Apple Silicon and Intel processors.

Which apps does Zoetrope DFISH work in?

Zoetrope DFISH works in Final Cut Pro X, Motion, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve. It runs on both Apple Silicon and Intel processors through FxFactory. Because it relies on Noise Industries FxFactory as its host framework, you'll want that free download installed first before the effect appears in these applications. Refer to the FxFactory page for updated system requirements that apply across all of these supported hosts.

How does Zoetrope DFISH handle different fisheye lenses?

Zoetrope DFISH separates the correction parameters for the inner and outer portions of the lens, since not all lenses show linear distortion across the whole image plane. This accounts for a greater variety of lenses and cameras. It also ships with presets for common action cameras and fisheye lenses that you can use as a starting point, tweak, and then save as your own presets to apply across footage.

Is Zoetrope DFISH free?

Zoetrope DFISH is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change, so check the developer's page for current licensing details before you download. Note that it runs on top of Noise Industries FxFactory, which is itself a free download, with a paid FxFactory Pro version that shares the same system requirements as the free version. Once FxFactory is installed, DFISH becomes available in your supported host applications.
