Why we like it

AE Actions earns its place in the aescripts library by bringing a Photoshop Actions–style record-and-replay workflow to After Effects, spanning the 2020 through 2026 releases.

What is AE Actions?

AE Actions is an Adobe After Effects ScriptUI panel from Shiraz Syed, inspired by the Photoshop Actions panel. It records timeline operations, layer modifications, keyframes, effects, expressions, and presets, then replays them on any composition with a single click. Both project-level and timeline actions are supported, so recorded steps can be reused across compositions.

Recording works through a live polling mode, and a step inspector lets you review and edit the captured steps. Actions can carry keyframe offset and apply modes, run against selected layers, or batch apply to all comps. A folder organization system, per-set notes and annotations, and import/export of libraries help manage sets, while an FFX auto-index and remapper handles presets.

Version 1.0.7 focuses on playback reliability, faster startup, clearer action-set organization, and a responsive panel interface, adding folder controls, a combined search and folder filter, and a tabbed Help panel. It supports After Effects 2026 through 2020.

Who is AE Actions best for?

AE Actions is best for after Effects users who repeat timeline operations, layer modifications, keyframes, effects, expressions or presets and want to record and replay them across compositions.

Frequently asked questions

Which After Effects versions does AE Actions support?

AE Actions supports After Effects 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2020, so it covers several years of releases. It runs as a ScriptUI panel inside After Effects, where you record timeline operations, layer modifications, keyframes, effects, expressions and presets, then replay them on any composition. Because it spans both current and older versions, teams working across mixed setups can share the same action sets. Check the developer's page for the exact installation steps and any per-version notes.

Is AE Actions free to use?

AE Actions is listed as free here in our catalog, so you can add it without a purchase price shown. Licensing terms can change over time, so for the current details and any conditions attached to the download, check the developer's page on aescripts. The plugin's function does not depend on the listing price: it records your After Effects timeline operations, keyframes, effects, expressions and presets and replays them across compositions regardless of how it is distributed.

How does AE Actions record and replay steps?

AE Actions records changes such as timeline operations, layer modifications, keyframes, effects, expressions and presets, then replays them on any composition with a single click. It offers a live polling mode for recording and a step inspector and editor for reviewing captured steps. You can apply actions at the project level or timeline level, run them against selected layers, batch apply to all comps, and use keyframe offset and apply modes. A folder system, per-set notes and import/export help you organize action sets.

What changed in AE Actions 1.0.7?

AE Actions 1.0.7, released on July 13, 2026, focuses on playback reliability, faster startup, clearer action-set organization and a responsive panel interface. It adds a lightweight action-set startup catalog, a persistent Auto FFX preference, folder renaming with automatic reassignment of contained sets, and explicit folder controls for creating, renaming, deleting and moving sets. It also introduces rename and delete controls for action sets, a combined search and folder filter row, an on/off control for skipping selected steps during playback, and a tabbed Help panel.
