AutoTrail is a library of geometry nodes trees for Blender that gives animated objects a customizable trail. It requires Blender 4.1 or newer and works on both straight lines and curved edges, so curved swords and other curves are supported alongside standard shapes.
The library ships with more than 20 trails, ranging from basic glows to a bubble trail with bubbles that pop and a trail with onomatopoeia comic-book-style text. Each has a set of easily understandable controls and runs performantly, with the exception of the water trails, which are slower because of the remeshing they perform.
Trails drag straight in from the asset browser: pick the object that will carry the trail, set the vertex group the trail should follow, and you have a working trail right away. All trails are highly customizable, and the Blank Points Trail can turn any collection into a trail for your object, with controls for gravity and noise to build particle trails.
