Fluid Painter earns its place in the superhive library by turning a drawn curve into surface-following fluids through Geometry Nodes, backed by a preset library and a drop system whose drops move along splines for a flow effect. The Fluid+ presets and the tool for sticking fluids to animated objects extend it beyond static leaks.
Fluid Painter is a Blender add-on built on Geometry Nodes that lets you paint fluids over any 3D surface using a curve. Base and advanced parameters let you create custom fluids, and the included library holds more than 30 presets compatible with both Eevee and Cycles, covering options like Chocolate, Maple Syrup, Honey, Ketchup and Glaze.
The add-on provides two primary preset types. Fluid presets suit general painting and are recommended for leaking fluids, while Fluid+ presets dynamically adjust to the painting surface and require an assigned drawing object. A drop system adds a drop at the end of each fluid shape, with adjustable size, length and curvature, randomization settings, a drop loop option and streaming start/stop control. Two layers of scattering objects place spheres or cylinders inside or over the surface.
Fluids can be stuck over animated objects such as rigged and simulated ones, and finished shapes can be converted to mesh and exported to other 3D software. Version 1.4.1 adds a String Slack control, a Drop Starting Spline parameter and separate viewport and render resolution settings.
Fluid Painter is best for painting fluid effects like leaks, drips and surface coatings over 3D objects in Blender, using included presets or fluids built from scratch.
Fluid Painter is completely free to download and use.
Fluid Painter includes a preset library compatible with both Eevee and Cycles, so you can add fluids to a scene in either render engine. The add-on runs in Blender and uses Geometry Nodes to paint fluids over any 3D surface with a curve, shipping with more than 30 presets. You can also build your own fluid from scratch using the included default presets. For engine-specific behaviour or the latest compatibility notes, check the developer's page.
Fluid Painter 1.4.1 adds a String Slack control to the Fluid String feature, a Drop Starting Spline parameter that lets you choose which spline the drops are generated from, and new resolution settings that separate viewport resolution from render resolution. The update also brings bug fixes. A dedicated video covers the new features along with a tutorial, and a Fluid Painter - What's New document lists the full set of changes.
Fluid Painter offers two primary preset types. Fluid presets work for general painting and are recommended for creating fluid leaks; they draw over any 3D surface and need no drawing object assigned. Fluid+ presets are more advanced, dynamically adjusting to the painting surface and flattening onto it, but they require an assigned drawing surface. That assignment happens automatically when you select one or more objects just before adding a Fluid+ preset. Both preset types can draw over any 3D surface.
Fluid Painter lets you take fluids beyond Blender by converting them to mesh and exporting. Inside Blender, the tool builds fluids with Geometry Nodes from a curve, and once you're happy with a shape you can convert it to a mesh and export it for use in other 3D software. It also includes a tool to stick fluids over animated objects such as rigged and simulated objects. For export formats and specifics, refer to the developer's documentation.
Fluid Painter is listed as free here in our catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, so for the current terms and any usage conditions, check the developer's page on superhive. The add-on is distributed for Blender and includes its preset library, drop system, scattering objects and export options. Before installing a new version, the developer recommends uninstalling the old one, closing Blender and reopening it to ensure a clean installation environment.
