Bool Tool stands out in the blender_extensions library, where it ranks third by popularity. It carries a lineage as a formerly bundled Blender add-on, updated and modernized for recent versions with Carver tools ported in for hard-surface modeling.
Bool Tool is a Blender add-on built around quick boolean operators for hard-surface modeling. It provides operators for applying boolean modifiers as brush booleans, performing destructive cuts with auto boolean, and workspace tools that cut objects with custom shapes in both object and edit modes. Utility features handle managing, removing, and applying boolean modifiers.
The add-on was part of Blender 4.1's bundled add-ons before being updated and enhanced for Blender 4.2, which introduced Carver tools ported from the Carver add-on that also shipped with Blender in the past. It ranks third by popularity on blender_extensions and is developed and maintained on GitHub.
Version 2.0.0 focuses its updates on the Carve tools: Surface Alignment for drawing cutters on mesh surfaces, a manual depth option to control cutter extrusion during the modal, and 3D cursor and grid alignment. Bevel and Array became non-destructive modifiers added on the cutter, and all three Carve tools are now non-destructive by default.
Bool Tool is best for hard-surface modeling in Blender using boolean operations — brush booleans, auto boolean cuts, and Carver-based cutting with custom shapes.
Bool Tool is completely free to download and use.
Bool Tool lists compatibility with Blender 4.5 LTS and newer, and the 2.0.0 release targets those versions. On 4.5 and up it applies boolean modifiers as brush booleans, performs destructive auto boolean cuts, and provides workspace tools for cutting objects with custom shapes in object and edit modes. For details on older builds or specific compatibility questions, the developer maintains the add-on on GitHub, where documentation and version history are available.
Bool Tool is listed as free here in the catalog. It is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, and the add-on is developed and maintained on GitHub, where contributions are welcomed. For current licensing terms or any changes, check the developer's page. The extension does not require special permissions, so installing it doesn't grant any extra access.
Bool Tool installs into Blender by drag and drop — you drag the extension directly into Blender to add it. It's also available through the Get Add-on option on its extensions page. The extension is a compact 163.6 KB download developed and maintained on GitHub, where you can find its source, documentation, and version history. Since it requires no special permissions, setup stays straightforward.
Bool Tool 2.0.0 focuses its updates exclusively on the Carve tools. It adds Surface Alignment so cutters can be drawn on mesh surfaces, a manual depth option to control cutter extrusion during the modal, and 3D cursor and grid alignment. Bevel and Array are now non-destructive, added on the cutter as modifiers in the new Effects dropdown, and all three Carve tools are non-destructive by default. Circle Carve now creates perfect circles by default. Fuller release notes are on the developer's GitHub.
