Captione Engine Lite is a CEP extension panel for Adobe After Effects that turns SRT, WebVTT (VTT), and TTML caption files into an editable subtitle setup. Rather than spreading captions across hundreds of separate text layers, it generates a reusable subtitle rig driven by a single text layer and layer markers, so you can edit, style, and re-import from one place.
Styling lives in that one panel: safe margins, position offsets, box, padding, corner radius, and opacity. Timing is frame-accurate, with options to snap to frames, enforce minimum durations, and auto-trim overlapping cues. The panel also cleans up messy source files automatically, stripping formatting tags, removing bracketed SFX text, and normalizing whitespace as captions come in. When a job calls for complex compositing or per-cue effects, you can split captions to individual layers.
Re-importing a revised file updates timing and text while your styling and rig stay untouched, and an import log reports stats and warnings for skipped cues or timing issues. This is the LITE version of Caption Engine, which includes an unrestricted 7-day free trial; keeping the tool after the trial requires the paid, full version.
