Why we like it

Clothify Pro earns its place in the ScriptSpot library for treating cloth as an editable modifier rather than a simulation, with control reaching down to vertex weights and vertex colors. Worth noting that it doesn't yet handle object collisions, self-intersections or volume preservation.

What is Clothify Pro?

Clothify Pro is a 3ds Max modifier for modeling and animating cloth. Marius Silaghi built it to be controllable, artist-friendly, fast and non-destructive, returning instant results rather than waiting for a simulation to finish. It also lets you avoid the painful sculpting cloth can otherwise require. Edit a parameter and you see what it does immediately.

Every parameter can be controlled by soft selection, vertex weights or vertex colors. Any deformation applied underneath the modifier affects the cloth, so you can combine it with the many modifiers 3ds Max offers, including Edit Poly, Skin, FFD, Bend, Affect Region and Path Deform. It works with the Freeform brushes too, and with anything that deforms the mesh.

Currently it doesn't handle collisions with other objects or self-intersections, though those rarely happen if the underlying mesh isn't self-intersecting, and volume preservation isn't available yet. It runs on 3ds Max 2013 through 2027 (64-bit) and was last updated in April 2024. A demo video is available, and you can find Clothify Pro on the developer's page.

Who is Clothify Pro best for?

Clothify Pro is best for 3ds Max artists modeling and animating cloth who want fast, non-destructive results without running a full simulation or sculpting the folds by hand.

How much does Clothify Pro cost?

Clothify Pro is completely free to download and use.

  • Non-destructive cloth modifier that returns instant results, with no waiting for a simulation to finish
  • Live parameter editing: change a value and see what it does immediately
  • Per-parameter control via soft selection, vertex weights or vertex colors
  • Deformations applied beneath it in the stack affect the cloth, so it works with Edit Poly, Skin, FFD, Bend, Affect Region, Path Deform and more

Frequently asked questions

What 3ds Max versions does Clothify Pro support?

Clothify Pro runs on 3ds Max 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027, in their 64-bit editions. That spans a long range of releases, so both older and current installs are covered. The modifier was last updated on 2024-04-23. For the definitive, up-to-date compatibility list and any newer builds, check Marius Silaghi's product page before installing.

Does Clothify Pro handle collisions and self-intersections?

Clothify Pro currently doesn't handle collisions with other objects or self-intersections. In practice those rarely occur as long as the underlying mesh isn't self-intersecting to begin with. Volume preservation isn't available yet either. If your workflow depends on object collision or volume behaviour, keep those limits in mind. You can check Marius Silaghi's product page to see whether later versions have added them.

How much control does Clothify Pro give over individual parameters?

Clothify Pro lets every parameter be driven by soft selection, vertex weights or vertex colors, so you can vary the effect across a mesh instead of applying it uniformly. Because it's non-destructive, editing a parameter shows the result instantly rather than committing the change. It also picks up any deformation applied beneath it in the stack, which means modifiers like Edit Poly, Skin, FFD, Bend, Affect Region and Path Deform all feed into the cloth.

Is Clothify Pro free to use?

Clothify Pro is listed as free here in our catalog. Licensing terms can change, so for the current arrangement, purchase details and license type, check Marius Silaghi's official product page directly. That page is where you get Clothify Pro, and a demo video for the modifier is also available. Confirming there means you're working from the latest information rather than a cached listing.
