Deep Comp stands out in the aescripts library for its focused approach to precomp work: unfolding a precomp's content into the main comp and editing it live with instant feedback, rather than only listing composition tricks.
Deep Comp is an After Effects script for navigating a project's comps and working on precomps live. You unfold a precomp's content within the main comp and edit it directly, with instant feedback as you make changes.
While browsing, you can open a main comp's pre-comps on the fly at any level of the comps tree. Solo and unsolo, or disable and enable, solo pre-comps and layers at any tree level, and generate a temporary alpha channel checker layer for pre-comps. Once a pre-comp is unfolded, you can add or remove layers and effects, edit its layers live, and duplicate the unfolded pre-comp at project level.
Deep Comp is compatible with After Effects from CC through the 2026 release. This is version 1.0, released in February 2025 as the initial version. A demo video is available.
Deep Comp is best for after Effects users who work with nested precomps and want to edit them live inside the main comp while navigating the comps tree.

Deep Comp lists a wide compatibility range, covering everything from the original CC through CC 2014, CC 2015, CC 2015.3, CC 2017, CC 2018 and CC 2019, and on into the annual versions 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and the 2026 release. As a first release, the feature set covers the core workflow: opening pre-comps on the fly, soloing and enabling pre-comps and layers at any comps tree level, unfolding a precomp into the main comp, editing layers live, and duplicating the unfolded precomp at project level.
