Why we like it

Face Blur earns its spot in the toolfarm library by pairing automatic face detection with an object-tracking fallback, so footage that defeats detection can still be concealed using the same presets and configuration.

What is FxFactory Face Blur?

FxFactory Face Blur automatically detects, blurs, and pixelates human faces across After Effects, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, along with Final Cut Pro and Motion. Multiple faces can be detected at once and blurred or pixelated simultaneously, or the effect can be limited to a specific face. The relative size and tilt angle of each face is tracked independently, keeping output consistent as people move closer to or further from the camera.

Beyond faces, you can supply your graphic file as a shape mask, where bright areas define the visible portions; popular file formats are supported. Inverting the output creates vignette effects that adjust to the location of all faces. The same features are available in every supported app, with 14 built-in presets that can be shared across apps or with other users.

When footage is low-resolution or too noisy for automatic detection, the included Object Blur plug-in uses object tracking rather than face detection, so you can track and conceal anything in the frame. It offers the same presets and configuration, letting both plug-ins mix on the same timeline. FxFactory Face Blur requires Noise Industries FxFactory to run and works on Apple Silicon and Intel processors.

Frequently asked questions

Does FxFactory Face Blur work in DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro?

FxFactory Face Blur works in Final Cut Pro X, Motion, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve, running on both Apple Silicon and Intel processors. The same features are available across every supported application, and presets can be shared from one app to another or with other users. Because the plug-in relies on Noise Industries FxFactory to run, refer to the FxFactory page for current, updated system requirements.

Does FxFactory Face Blur need FxFactory installed to run?

FxFactory Face Blur requires Noise Industries FxFactory to run, which is available as a free download. FxFactory Pro is a paid version that carries the same system requirements as the free version. For updated system requirements, refer to the FxFactory page. Once FxFactory is in place, Face Blur runs in Final Cut Pro X, Motion, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve on Apple Silicon and Intel processors.

What happens if automatic face detection fails on my footage?

FxFactory Face Blur includes an Object Blur plug-in for footage that is low-resolution or too noisy for reliable automatic face detection. Object Blur uses object tracking rather than face detection, so you can track and conceal just about anything in the frame, not only faces. It offers the same presets and effect configuration as Face Blur, which means both plug-ins can be mixed on the same timeline for consistent output.

Can FxFactory Face Blur blur multiple faces at once?

FxFactory Face Blur can detect multiple faces in a video at once and blur or pixelate all of them simultaneously, or limit the effect to a specific face. The relative size and tilt angle of each face is tracked independently, so output stays consistent as people move closer to or further from the camera. You can also invert the output to create vignette effects that adjust to the location of all faces.

Is FxFactory Face Blur free?

FxFactory Face Blur is listed here as free. The plug-in runs on top of Noise Industries FxFactory, which is a free download, and FxFactory Pro is a paid version with the same system requirements as the free version. For current licensing and any purchase options, check the developer's page. Face Blur works across Final Cut Pro X, Motion, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve, and includes the Object Blur plug-in as part of the same product.
