Why we like it

Earns its place in the aescripts library for handling 3D Gaussian Splatting .ply files end to end inside DaVinci Resolve, from import and cropping through colorizing and depth-pass rendering, all in real-time on the GPU. Currently ranked 14 on aescripts.

What is Gaussian Splatting?

Gaussian Splatting is a plugin from irrealix for importing, manipulating and rendering 3D Gaussian Splatting .ply files inside DaVinci Resolve, rendered in real-time with the GPU. Once a .ply is loaded, you can crop it with a spherical or box shape or a Y plane, and combine up to 10 models in a single scene.

Styling and animation tools cover colorizing with a ramp using a spherical or box shape, revealing a model with an opacity ramp, animating splat scale with a spherical or box shape, and distorting each model with noise. For compositing work, it renders a depth pass for 3D compose and can export the scene.

Version 1.6.10, updated February 6, 2026, added support for 2D layers to render in the GS environment and improved loading of large models and rendering of massive numbers of splats. The plugin supports DaVinci Resolve 21, 20, 19 and 18. A demo video is available, and .ply files can be produced through services such as lumalabs.ai.

Who is Gaussian Splatting best for?

Gaussian Splatting is best for daVinci Resolve artists bringing 3D Gaussian Splatting .ply scans into their compositions.

How much does Gaussian Splatting cost?

Gaussian Splatting is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Which DaVinci Resolve versions does Gaussian Splatting support?

Gaussian Splatting is compatible with DaVinci Resolve 21, 20, 19 and 18. On any of those versions you can import .ply files and manipulate them directly inside Resolve, with rendering handled in real-time by the GPU. You can crop, colorize, combine up to 10 models and render a depth pass for compositing on the supported releases. If you're running a Resolve version outside that list, check the developer's page to confirm compatibility before installing.

Is Gaussian Splatting free to download?

Gaussian Splatting is listed as free in this catalog. We don't publish pricing figures here, so for current licensing terms and any conditions attached to the download, head to the developer's page. The changelog notes past updates to the license framework and a fix for Fusion Studio license activation, so licensing has changed across versions and the developer's page will carry the latest details.

How do I create a .ply file to use with Gaussian Splatting?

Gaussian Splatting works with .ply files, and one way to produce them is through lumalabs.ai. Open lumalabs.ai, go to Captures and click Create, then upload your recorded video and wait about 30 minutes for training to finish. Once it's done, open your scan, click the Download icon and choose Gaussian Splat in the dialog. You can upload a normal, fisheye or equirectangular video, a zip of videos, or images in a zip file, up to 5 gigabytes.

What's new in Gaussian Splatting 1.6.10?

Gaussian Splatting 1.6.10, released February 6, 2026, added support for 2D layers to render in the GS environment and improved loading of large models along with rendering of massive numbers of splats. Earlier updates in the changelog include a fix for ml-sharp .ply files, a crop shape rotation option, improved gizmo visibility and HDR render support. Check the developer's page for the full version history.
