Why we like it

Earns its place in the aescripts library for turning a multi-step asset import into one paste, with After Effects support spanning CC 2019 through 2026.

What is JustPaste?

JustPaste is an extension for Adobe After Effects that replaces the multi-step routine of saving, exporting, locating, and dragging asset files with a single copy-and-paste action. Copy an image or vector to your system clipboard, then paste it into your composition with one click or Ctrl/Cmd + V. It works with content copied from web browsers, Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma, and most apps.

Auto mode detects copied assets and selects the best format to save them, and SVGs can convert into editable shape layers automatically. Each file auto-saves next to your .aep project, optionally inside a custom-named folder created both on disk and in the Project panel. You control layer placement (top, bottom, above, or below the selected layer) and can match the pasted layer's timing to the playhead or to the selected layer's start and end.

File handling is configurable: use file-name templates, ask for a name before each paste, and decide whether a duplicate name gets a number, an overwrite, or a skip. Recent versions add support for pasting multiple files at once and for video and audio copied from Finder or Explorer.

Who is JustPaste best for?

JustPaste is best for after Effects artists who bring in outside assets and want to skip the save, export, locate, and drag routine.

How much does JustPaste cost?

JustPaste is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Which After Effects versions does JustPaste support?

JustPaste supports After Effects 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, and CC 2019, covering a wide span of releases. If you are on any of these versions, the extension is compatible. Version 1.2.1, released July 12, 2026, added audio file support and fixed behavior in the Project panel on large projects. For the current release and any updates beyond this range, check the developer's page.

Does JustPaste work with assets copied from Figma or Illustrator?

JustPaste works with content copied from web browsers, Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma, and most apps. Copy an image or vector to your system clipboard, then paste it into your composition with a single click or Ctrl/Cmd + V. Auto mode detects the copied asset and selects the best format to save it, and SVGs can convert into editable shape layers automatically. This lets you move assets from those apps into After Effects without the usual save, export, and drag steps.

Can JustPaste paste animated GIFs from the web?

JustPaste can paste animated GIFs from the web with full animation, not just the first frame. This works via right click and "Copy Image" rather than a standard clipboard copy. Alongside GIFs, the extension handles images and vectors from the clipboard, and can paste multiple files at once from Finder or Explorer, including video formats like MOV and MP4. A demo video is available on the developer's page.

Can JustPaste handle video and audio files?

JustPaste accepts video and audio files copied from Finder or Explorer. Video formats include MOV and MP4, and audio formats include WAV, MP3, AIF/AIFF, M4A, and AAC, both as single files and in multi-file batches. Files copied this way keep their original file names, which can be turned off in Settings. PSD, AI, and images copied from Finder or Explorer are supported too, and everything pastes in one step with a single undo.

Is JustPaste free to use?

JustPaste is listed as free in this catalog. There is no price figure to report here, and licensing terms can change over time, so check the developer's page for the current details. The extension runs inside Adobe After Effects and supports versions from CC 2019 through 2026, so you can confirm your version is covered before installing. It pastes images, vectors, and other assets from your clipboard into a composition with a single click or Ctrl/Cmd + V.
