Why we like it

Stands out in the toolfarm library for producing genuinely clean text layers. Each piece is truly decomposed rather than masked with zero-opacity expressions, so individual layers stay easy to select and edit.

What is mamoworld TextExploder?

mamoworld TextExploder breaks After Effects text layers into separate pieces: characters, words, lines, a single isolated word, or flexible custom splits defined with Regular Expressions. After each split, the position of every letter is accurately preserved. Rather than hiding characters, it produces clean text layers that contain only the text you see, with no expressions, text animators, or other tricks.

Version 3 added Per Character Text Styles, so text using more than one color, font, or style can be split as well; this feature requires After Effects 24.3 or newer. TextExploder also supports 3D layers, bounded (paragraph or box) text, text with animated position, and layers with separate dimensions enabled. It handles left, right, and center aligned text, but not justified text or text made with the vertical type tool.

If you use KBar, you can run TextExploder with your saved settings from a toolbar button, and a scripting API lets you call it from your own scripts for automated pipelines and custom workflow tools. A version of TextExploder V2 is also included in mamoworld's Squash & Stretch Pro, integrated into that product's interface but without KBar, scripting, or per-character style support.

Who is mamoworld TextExploder best for?

mamoworld TextExploder is best for after Effects users who need to split text layers into separately editable characters, words, or lines while keeping each element's placement intact.

How much does mamoworld TextExploder cost?

Frequently asked questions

Which After Effects versions does mamoworld TextExploder support?

mamoworld TextExploder is compatible with a wide range of After Effects versions, from CS4 through the CC releases up to After Effects 2026, including 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2020. This broad coverage suits both current projects and older installations. Note that the Per Character Text Styles feature, which handles text using more than one color, font, or style, requires After Effects 24.3 or newer, so that specific capability is limited to recent versions even though the core splitting tools work across the full range.

What does mamoworld TextExploder need for per-character text styles?

mamoworld TextExploder introduced Per Character Text Styles in version 3, letting it split text that uses more than one color, font, or other style within the same layer. This feature requires After Effects 24.3 or newer. On older versions, the core splitting into characters, words, lines, custom words, and Regular Expression matches still works, but the per-character styling support depends on that newer release. If you work with multi-style text, confirm your After Effects version meets the 24.3 requirement before relying on it.

Can I run mamoworld TextExploder from scripts or KBar?

mamoworld TextExploder can be run beyond its own interface in two ways. With KBar, you can explode text using your saved settings directly from a toolbar button. It also offers a scripting API, so you can call TextExploder from your own After Effects scripts and build it into automated pipelines and custom workflow tools. Note that the version of TextExploder included in mamoworld's Squash & Stretch Pro does not offer KBar or scripting support, so those integrations are specific to the standalone product.

What text types does mamoworld TextExploder not support?

mamoworld TextExploder works with text that is left, right, or center aligned, but it does not support text whose paragraph alignment is set to justify. It also does not handle text created with the vertical type tool. Aside from those cases, it covers a wide range of text, including 3D layers, bounded (paragraph or box) text, text with animated position, and layers that have separate dimensions enabled. If your text falls outside the supported alignment or type modes, you may need to adjust it first.

Is mamoworld TextExploder free?

mamoworld TextExploder is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change, so for current details on activation and any licensing conditions, check the developer's page. A fully-functional version of TextExploder V2 is also included in the Pro edition of mamoworld's Squash & Stretch product, though that integrated version has no KBar or scripting support and does not yet support the per-character text styles found in TextExploder V3.
