Why we like it

A compact, single-purpose add-on. Motion Path Creator keeps its scope narrow — select an item, press a button, adjust the dot radius and per-path color, reset when done — and covers bones, empties and vertices alongside objects.

What is Motion Path Creator?

Motion Path Creator is a Blender add-on by Blenderbob for generating motion paths for bones, empties, vertices and objects. Once installed, it appears in the viewport's animation tab. To create a path, select a bone, empty, vertex or object, then press the corresponding button.

By default the add-on generates the path across the entire timeline. Turning off the Timeline checkbox lets you set your own start and end frame instead. You can adjust the radius of the dots and change the color per path. A Reset option deletes all generated paths at once.

The add-on is written in Python and compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer. It requires no special permissions and is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. A demo video is available for a closer look, and the current release is version 2.1.2.

Frequently asked questions

Does Motion Path Creator work with Blender 4.2?

Motion Path Creator lists compatibility with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, so it works with current LTS releases and later versions. It's written entirely in Python and requires no special permissions to run. The current release is version 2.1.2. If you're on an earlier build of Blender, check the developer's page for supported versions before installing, since compatibility here starts at Blender 4.2 LTS.

How do I create a motion path with Motion Path Creator?

Motion Path Creator generates a path once you select a bone, empty, vertex or object and press the corresponding button in the viewport's animation tab, where the add-on appears after installation. You can adjust the radius of the dots that make up the path and set a different color for each path. When you want to clear your work, the Reset option deletes all generated paths at once, so you can start fresh without removing them one by one.

Can I limit the motion path to a specific frame range in Motion Path Creator?

Motion Path Creator generates the path across the entire timeline by default. To limit it to a specific range, turn off the Timeline checkbox, which then lets you set your own start and end frame for the path. This gives you control over which portion of the animation the path covers rather than the full timeline. A demo video is available on the developer's page if you'd like to see the workflow before installing.

Is Motion Path Creator free, and what license does it use?

Motion Path Creator is listed as free here in the catalog, and it's distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. The add-on requires no special permissions to install or run. For current licensing terms and the latest release, check the developer's page on GitHub, where the source is published under GPL. Since it's open source, you can review the code and its license directly before adding it to your Blender setup.
