Why we like it

Particles-X earns a spot in the superhive library by trimming Blender's particle system down to its most-used controls and pairing them with preset effects and ready-made particle objects. A demo video is available.

What is Particles-X?

Particles-X is a Blender addon focused on simplifying the particle system, built mainly for sci-fi environments and scenes. It surfaces only the most-used particle settings — count, size, randomize, gravity, velocity, source and type — rather than every property Blender exposes, so effects come together with a few tweaks. Particles can be static or dynamic, and emit from the face, volume or vertices.

The addon is organised into four panels. The Particles-X Panel handles most of the creation through a Custom Tab, for particles you tweak yourself, and a Preset Tab, for choosing effects like the plexus and trail effects. The Particles-X Settings panel adds properties such as gravity, velocity, source and type. It also ships with particle objects you can assign automatically: a Mirror object (an icosphere with a mirror material that reflects light), a Glow object, coloured Sphere objects, plus Custom Object and Custom Collection slots for your own.

It includes over 40 particle presets — fireworks, Black Hole, Thrust and more — along with 5-plus particle effects and Force Fields offering Turbulence, Twist and Push. Particles can be animated, converted to keyframes and baked for use in other software.

Frequently asked questions

Where do particles in Particles-X emit from?

Particles-X lets you emit particles from an object's faces, its volume, or its vertices, and it supports both static and dynamic particles. In the walkthrough for creating a first particle, you select a cube, create particles from the Custom tab, then adjust size, count and colour before switching the source from face to verts and setting velocity to zero for a flowing result. The source setting sits in the Particles-X Settings panel alongside options like gravity and velocity.

Can I use my own objects as particles in Particles-X?

Particles-X ships with several particle objects you can assign automatically, including a Mirror object (an icosphere with a mirror material that reflects light), a Glow object that makes particles glow, and coloured Sphere objects. For your own assets, the Custom Object slot lets you assign a single object as the particle, while the Custom Collection slot handles a collection of objects. That covers both the built-in looks and any custom geometry you bring in.

Can Particles-X output be used in other software?

Particles-X can convert particle animation to keyframes and bake them, which is intended for use in other software. It also covers animation directly in Blender, with easy creation, tweaking and animating of particle effects. Alongside the standard settings, you can add a Particles-X Force — Turbulence, Twist or Push — and, for example, scale a Twist force to make particles rotate. For details on the export and baking workflow, check the developer's page.

What force fields does Particles-X include?

Particles-X includes Force Fields with three options: Turbulence, Twist and Push. As an example, adding a Twist force and scaling it causes the particles to rotate, creating a spinning effect. These forces sit alongside the addon's core particle settings such as gravity, velocity, count and size, so you can layer motion on top of a base particle flow. The developer's page and demo video cover more on how the forces behave.

Is Particles-X free?

Particles-X is listed as free in this catalog. The developer also mentions a Pro Version that includes at least one additional preset, along with free updates for coming versions. Because licensing and any paid tiers can change, check the developer's page for the current terms before you download. That's the most reliable place to confirm what's included at each tier.
