Earns its place in the superhive library for combining a one-click AutoFog system, preset-based controls and a photorealistic Cycles volume in a single addon. A demo video is available.
Physical Fog Addon builds cinematic volumetric fog in Blender through its AutoFog system. Create a fog domain with one click, use Auto Domain to fit the entire scene, or generate a domain from your selection. Multiple fog domains can be layered for ground fog, horizon haze and distance atmosphere, with distance and height shaping, wind and global noise breakup, and custom preset saving alongside built-in Ground Fog and Fog & Atmosphere presets.
The Pro version adds FogPlanes, lightweight atmospheric layers that include flowmap animation, a Face Camera billboard mode, avoidance collision fade near geometry, and custom tint and emission across 49 presets. It also brings a Photorealistic Volume based on the Volume Coefficients shader for physically correct absorption and scattering, with optimized density scaling; this volume works in Cycles only.
A bonus Physical Volume, powered by Geometry Nodes and physical points, lets objects push through smoke and recover naturally. The addon works in both Cycles and Eevee, though large domains in Eevee are best avoided due to engine limitations.
Physical Fog Addon is best for blender artists adding volumetric fog, mist and haze to scenes across Cycles and Eevee.
Physical Fog Addon is completely free to download and use.
Physical Fog Addon works in both Cycles and Eevee, so you can build fog in either engine. In Eevee it is recommended to avoid very large domains because of engine limitations. The Photorealistic Volume, based on the Volume Coefficients node, runs in Cycles only. For general fog work you can move between the two engines, but the physically accurate scattering volume depends on Cycles, and keeping Eevee domains modest helps performance and appearance.
Physical Fog Addon comes in Base and Pro editions. Base includes the AutoFog system with distance and height control, wind and noise modulation, built-in and custom presets, plus the Physical Volume with dynamic interaction as a bonus. Pro includes everything in Base and adds FogPlanes with flowmaps across 49 assets, along with the Photorealistic Volume for Cycles. If you need the atmospheric fog cards or physically correct scattering, those sit in the Pro tier.
Physical Fog Addon suggests a specific approach for extremely large scenes over 3 km. Rather than using Auto Domain, disable it and create a domain based on selected objects. This gives more precise control and avoids unnecessarily large fog volumes that can impact performance. The presets provide a strong starting point, though slight tweaking of density, height or distance may be necessary, since lighting conditions, scene scale and object placement all affect the final volumetric appearance.
Physical Fog Addon includes a bonus Physical Volume powered by Geometry Nodes and physical points. With it, objects can push through smoke and let it recover naturally, adding movement-driven interaction to the fog. This bonus is part of the Base edition, so it is available alongside the AutoFog system rather than reserved for Pro. It works together with the distance, height, wind and noise controls that shape the fog's overall look.
Physical Fog Addon is listed as free here in our catalog. Licensing and version details can change, so check the developer's page on Lazy3D for the current terms, including how the Base and Pro editions are offered. The addon is made by Lazy3D for Blender and covers volumetric fog, mist and haze through its preset-driven workflow. For the latest on what each edition includes, the developer's page is the best reference.
